taken from another site,,,i am in the process of trying it myself

Here's a simple way to stream sat channels from your Dream Box to the net.

You will need only a couple of bits of software and to be honest VLC Player can do it by itself, dreamView is a front end for it and makes life a lot easier (especially changing channels).

I can pick up the stream on my PDA when I'm out if I can find a a wireless network and I also stream footy to my mate on a Saturday afternoon. I've got 4mb NTsmell and the settings used in the tut work fine and I can leave it streaming all day long.

You will need a DNS IP and a router and your PC needs to be on all the time to transcode the stream.

thanks to VINNIEK

if you sort it let us know lol,i have probs with the last bit

Cheers for that bro but I stumbled at the end as well. I just get the orange videolan cone in the window.

i did, just click on the channel again, you may have to do it a few times before it comes on

did you install the activex option when installing vlc? does the streaming work when you go to the dreambox web interface?

i use to do this on be adsl, and was able to do a 1meg stream. pretty good. dreamview would crash on me now and then, so just had batch files that ran vlc for my favourtite channels. in that how to posted, they suggest using mpeg1 codec. i think in the end i found one of the others better quality, maybe wmv2 i cant remember. you can easily test by running the stream server, and do a localhost connection through vlc/wmp.

tell us more mate cos i am having probs with the fecker lol

lol, this thing has always been a pain in the ass for me! the problems i had...

- I use to do this solely through VLC, which seemed to provide better stability. But you realise that doesn't make channel changing easy. I then setup remote control into my pc from work, so I could set the connect options when wanting to change channel. In the end I had a notepad file of all the relevant pids, apids, vpids etc for the channels I watched to just copy n paste.

- About VLC, I know I had problems with the very latest version, and rolled back to an earlier one, that could be just me. Now and then, either VLC wouldn't stream from Dreambox, or it wouldn't transcode and broadcast. Usually would require a restart.

- Dreamview I found mostly excellent, although it seemed a tad more unstable than VLC. But for the sake of no longer pissing about with batch files, or notepad lists, I persisted.

- Most of my time spent tweaking everything to get the stream to look good. I ended up using these settings more often than not
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=1050,scale=0.75,acodec=mp3,ab=32,channels=1}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=asf,url=:9080}}

The sound is tweaked down, but I usually streamed cricket, and that was fine. That stream would only be doable if you have 1.1meg or higher upload which I got through Be ADSL. I would also put on a cache as well, sometimes 20 seconds, or a bit more.

I actually use to then re-broadcast this stream through my work connection, so more than one person could view. I simply connected from work to home via VLC, and re-broadcasted through another VLC without transcoding. Unfortunately, now moving out of the sat game, and going cable, I've found DBoxes dont quite have the grunt of my 7020s...

On a side note, I've also actually looked into dedicated streaming/transcoding servers, as I always felt you didn't quite get the quality as good as should be for the bitrate, not having access to some better dedicate streaming codecs, however I managed to stop myself before going in too far!

LOL I couldn't even get dreamview to work no matter streaming over the net as I just got the old VLC orange cone, all bouquets showed up fine but that was it :(

Thanks anyway troops...
