This may seem like a strange question, but what is an acceptable SNR level

I see mine fluctuate between 55% and 90% and wondered if it was to do with my dish alignment at all? Every now and then and it's not channel specific (FTA too) I will lose sync, get freezes or artifacts (blocky) and just wondered. Is this quite a normal range and there is no real set rate static rate/range or should I be expecting this to be up in the 80-90 on almost all channels rather than as low as 55%.

Exhumed from my old dbox2 notes, I assume this still applies .............

SNR is the Signal to Noise Ratio
this is how much of the AVAILABLE signal it can see above the noise, and that is why even with
low Sig or poor BER if it can see enough signal above the noise it will work just fine.

Some transponders are weaker then others as well,so you wont always get 80-100% snr on them all,

Give us a few that are low for you and I will see what they read here on my fixed and motorised dishes :)

Exos,

My apologies for not reading your question properly and posting a load of old drivel ..........

Thats the problem when you are supposed to be working and sneeking online for a quick peek ...

Sorry mate

It's ok Rod, your intention was good ;)

@Wiz

ITV1 HD 76%
CH5 HD 54%
Sky1 HD 54%
E4+1 59%
SyFy+1 44%
ShowcaseHD 67%
Film4 85%

I do have quite a few at 100%, just picked some random ones.

Your dish is slightly out of alignment I would say as on most of those channels I get between 90-100%

Cheers, will take a look at the weekend.

am getting the exact same sort of readings Exos, been driving me nuts this week, Sly 1 sticking all the time yet bbcHD is 90 odd%
let us know how u get on mate ... am gonna venture out this weekend too

Just got myself a sat alignment app for my tablet, plus one that connects to my DM800 to get the reading so I can play a little.

whats the one you got that connects to the 800?? that sounds interesting

ok, I've not had the chance to download the apps as yet and since the weather here is absolutely rotten have so far refrained from going out on the roof!

so i dug out the old 500s and plugged it in - interesting results, all bbc and terrestrial are pulling in at between 87-91% sports no bother either
only one is nick2 (75%) and sticking, which after the wind this morning wouldn't clear on the 800, (18%)

are the reading so good because the channels are all SD?
is it dish alignment?
faulty tuner on 800?

any thoughts appreciated
T

Haven't had chance to look at mine yet, between feeling awful (flu) and trying to do some DIY at the same time (never try this it's not a good combination)

Mate i was getting good readings on my 500 and shit ones on the duo (same dish quad lnb)
I realigned dish and all was good. We tits next door had skelped it with a ball and knocked it a baw hair out of alignment. So try tweeking your dish before condeming the tuner. The good readings on the 500 could be a red herring

Cheers IANB i'll get my ass out on the roof at somepoint through the week then,
were any channels on duo sticking?
thats my only concern for the 800 is that they stick on that and not on the 500
