2.5" sata, i bought a 500 GB one as i'd never fill it even with the HD recordings, right now i have about 23 hours worth of recordings (not all HD) on that drive & i still have 413 GB free. If you do any downloading you could also upload thiose movies to the hard drive (XviD, x264) to view them.
cheers mate so ill only need a small one really as i dont plan to record that much maybe a game or two.
cheers mate i was hoping to stream films from pc to it but not that far into it yet!

Yes you can use it for other stuff. I have a 2TB external drive connected to my Dm800SE. On it I have my music collection, ripped CDs & DVDs as well as space to record programmes.what hard drive do i need to buy for the 800se and what size do i need roughly?
is this purely for recording tvprograms on or can it be used for other stuff.

If you have your DM on your home network you can also use the DM+disk as a NAS and have the drive visible as a networked drive for other machines to read and/or write. I have mine set as an NFS drive for my Linux machine, I'm told you can set it as a shared drive for other operating systems.[/QUOTE
