guys

what hard drive do i need to buy for the 800se and what size do i need roughly?
is this purely for recording tvprograms on or can it be used for other stuff.

thanks

2.5" sata, i bought a 500 GB one as i'd never fill it even with the HD recordings, right now i have about 23 hours worth of recordings (not all HD) on that drive & i still have 413 GB free. If you do any downloading you could also upload thiose movies to the hard drive (XviD, x264) to view them.

Games? Do you mean movies?

Streming is easy to setup but you should be able to play most movies directly on the 800SE model - the older model didn;t support divx, xvid hence the need to stream.

Cheers

Yes you can use it for other stuff. I have a 2TB external drive connected to my Dm800SE. On it I have my music collection, ripped CDs & DVDs as well as space to record programmes.
If you have your DM on your home network you can also use the DM+disk as a NAS and have the drive visible as a networked drive for other machines to read and/or write. I have mine set as an NFS drive for my Linux machine, I'm told you can set it as a shared drive for other operating systems.

There seem to be a variety of bugs in the 800se clone dreamboxes. I have one which will not keep time which makes it impossible to record on timer. The other keeps time and records ok but loses connection with esata 1 TB hard drive on playback. I have searched high and low used various images to no avail. Would I buy them again definately not. I have a dreambox 7000 since 2004 and never had a problem with it and still running but no high definition

Hi the hard drive seems fine? computer sees it ok in docking station, and it did the formating ok, I wandered if a sata 1 would be better, but the faster sata drives are supposed to be backwards compatable, so im not sure, will have to wait till monday now, to get set up with lap top etc, never flashed one of these, hope i don't brick it. Cheers I'm off to watch rovers and chelski this afternoon with grand kids, so it will have to wait. regards Gr
