Hi guys and gals long time no see!

Ive recently moved and the main router is miles away from the lounge so running wires isnt a option.

I researched it and found out that a TP link TL-WN321G should work with the dm800 clone.

how ever i cant find the option to enable wireless lan under my version of firmware which is......dream elite black hole v 1.0

enigma 2010 06 01 experimental

What one should i be using?

Is it possible to flash my box with out moving it all.....or could i do it by taking it out to the router and then connecting from my laptop wireless with the new firmware.

Thanks in advance

get urself as set of homeplugs m8

Re: Couple of questions re wireless lan and firmware DM800 clone---help tonight pleas

well ive got the dongle so if possible id rather try and use that.

Slight problem im having at the moment is that i cant flash my firmware???

I connect to the box load the firmware up and it says flashing and reboots the box yet the new firmware is not installed.

any ideas

Check what version the dongle is as
TP Link TL-WN321G Version 3.4 or 3.6 works but 4.0 Or 4.1 does not work in DM800 as they dont contain the rt73 chipset from v4.0 upwards.

Are you flashing it using internet explorer?

ah crap its the newer 4.1 !!!!!!ah i never saw that part aboutt the versions!!!!!

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

You got a link to a dongle that will work as this is driving me up the wall.

Or as mentioned would two cheap low home plugs be easier?

And yes i was flashing with IE.

The progress bar flashes slowly across to 100% then box reboots and i have the same firmware!

nbow getting this!!!

If you see this, your box didn't boot to Linux.
Unless you interrupted the boot process, this usually means that you have no valid operating system in flash.
Don't panic! It's not a problem. You can just flash a new version and everything will be fine!
Otherwise, you can boot from network or USB.
If you're about to give up, you might get help at the Dream Multimedia Support board!
Currently there aren't many other features...

You can download your current flash contents (64 MB) here, but please don't expect to be able to flash it back. It's merely a debugging feature.
This device's Serial Number is 90260, and was built on 2010/10/23.

Just so you know to use a wireless dongle you need a 3g router to,
so i think the homeplug choice is a better option, links to them are at the bottom.

I don't see any reason why not, the only time they would not work would be if you had 2 separate ring mains in your house 1 upstairs and 1 down stairs and you wanted to have the router and box on each of those but as you are using it on the same level i dont see any issue's.

Re: Couple of questions re wireless lan and firmware DM800 clone---help tonight pleas

Try using a nullmodem cable as well as your ethernet cable and flash it with dreamup
what image are you trying to flash?

Re: Couple of questions re wireless lan and firmware DM800 clone---help tonight pleas

gonna try vthe belkin wireless dongle before i spend a load of some home plugs.

Re: Couple of questions re wireless lan and firmware DM800 clone---help tonight pleas

I use a wireless dongle on one of my box's, and honestly you would be far better getting yourself home plugs. I have found that every couple of days the wireless looses the conection, and needs a reboot also i don't think it's fast enough for c/s purposes( my conection certainly is not) I also can't flash an image over wirless, as the dongle is not picked up till the box is fully booted, so you will need to take the box to your router if you want to flash a new image on it. On the whole you will get far better results with wired/home plugs.

And you don't need a 3g router for a wirleless dongle! you only need a 3g router if your using mobile broadband.

Re: Couple of questions re wireless lan and firmware DM800 clone---help tonight pleas

have you considered a router flashed with dd-wrt?
they are piss easy to flash and very stable.
i've been running 3 for the last 9 months give or take without any interrupt.
very stable.
