looking for some help guys?

ive bought a 500GB sata hard drive for my DM800HD and ive plugged it in by unpluging the esata connection on the dreambox board and plugging in the bundled sata lead,

when i load the dreambox, i go to hard drive and it says ata 500gb hdd, click initialize and it gives an error saying it failed to mount, so i tried to do a file system check and that also failed..

i have DCC so if anyone has the code required for manual mounting or any other advice for getting it working i would be greatful..

thanks

(p.s i plugged this straight from the box into the dreambox)

have you rebooted the dreambox and tried m8? or try formatting it on a PC first, then format in the dreambox

dont know what image you have..but you should be able to do this because it did not format correctly............On the Pli image there is option to make the hdd go to sleep after a certain number of minutes if it is idle. I normally leave mine at 2 mins after it has formatted so that hdd does not continue to spin in the background but this causes a timeout when formatting a hdd as 2 mins is not long enough to format. Check you do not have something similar on your box. If its like that, just increase the time limit during format and then when its done, put it back to 2 mins for sleep

I had to connect mine to pc and reformat, put it back in box and it and it recognised harddrive

i tried formatting the hdd in the pc to NTFS format which worked fine, plugged into dm800 and tried to initialize, but it still failed..

any other ideas? could it be because i have the sata cable connected in the esata port? (although i don't see why this would matter as its seeing the hdd just not initializing)

Format the drive ext 3, because that is native linux, then just connect to your dream box and mount it, don't try to initialize on the dreambox, once you have done that then use ftp and make a folder on your harddrive, /movie and it should be ok. NTFS wont be recognised under linux, fat32 will but you are better using native linux ext3.

is there any windows based software that can do this? i dont have a linux setup

I use Paragon Partition Manager, or you could download the Ubunto live linux cd, and copy it to a disk, then boot your pc with the disc in, and then you can use the Ubunto without installing it, and format it that way, or download Gparted and copy that then do the same as with Ubunto.

put it into ext3, but it still doesnt mount or find a hdd , and still doesn't initialize.. dont really know whats being done wrong here to be honest

Are you mounting it media/hdd not usb? I would reflash your image on again because i tried for days to get mine to work, then i eventually reflashed the image and after that it mounted perfectly and has worked ever since. Don't try to initialise it, because that will mean if it doesn't work you then need to format it again, just mount it then ftp in and make a movie folder, you need the movie folder before it will record. I know it's a pain mate but try what i say.

I format sata drive till ntfs and it failed to even see it so then put pen drive in back and it seen then both so intitalized sata and sorted so i feel problem is in reader
try this if you are stuck

I didnt get mine working in the dm800 same problem tryed diffrent images but just couldnt get it working
