hiya guys, last night dm800 kept going off and rebooting its self, but now it wont turn on at all, when i plug the power in the led screen at the front of the box flashes on for a split second but then nothing, if i quickly plug power in a couple of times first time i plug it in same happens then on second plug in the ethernet lights come on at the back of the reciever but thats it, on second plug in aswell led screen doesnt flash on for split second either,
its a dm800 with dreamelite image 1.3 with boot loader 70,
its a clone bootloader 72 version,
anybody any ideas its driving me mad lol, thanks

have u tried reflashing it m8? the software might have went t!ts up, i had this a while back a reflash solved it.

cant flash it m8 it wont boot at, think ive found the problem, on the bottom of the mother board near the dvi connector theres a chip, my friends had multi meter on it and says its probably that and see a few forums with people having the same problme, but it requires some very fine soldering, im gona to upload some pictures when i get home if my camera is good enough, was hoping someone on here can help with that part ? thanks

I have been told there is 2 chips on the underside of the board that cause this problem 2 x 8 pin IC 4442 chips no idea were you get them from though.

rather than take photos i thought id post link to forum i found same problem as mine on, you can eother replace the chip but it is really really small and would take some good soldering i think, the other solution is to get the power from some where else and it also shows you how to do it in this link, i think i could maybe do that myself but dont no if its a good long term solution,
also if i did attempt it would using kynar wire people use for chipping nintendo wiis or xbox 360 repairs be ok to use ?

Any chance of posting the pictures and info on here as you have to register to view those links
thanks

i got things abit mixed up when i was talking about the chip last time, in the first picture theres a mistake, it tells you on forum i got it off that its meant to be 5 volts not 10,
so first leg is 12v but im not getting that, im getting 5 volts on 2 ng leg and 4th leg is ground, i tried using the alternative 12v source like it shows in one of the pictures, but it dint work and stil doesnt show 12v on multimeter, im using that kynar wire, not sure if thats good enough or not, heres a link to some kynar wire

5M BLUE KYNAR WIRE XBOX PS2 WII MOD 5 Metre for Modding on eBay (end time 21-Oct-10 22:30:05 BST)

heres a picture to show where the chip is on the bottom of the mother board, its the lm25xx chip

the wire is fine, check the 12v sources with the multimeter are they ever showing 12v?

no its not showing 12 v from the leg of the lm25xx chip and it doesnt show 12v from the alternative spot either,

been doing bit more testing and the alternativer spot can flaick up to 12v sumtimes,

ive got a better multimeter as mine was playing up, its getting the 12v needed on leg one of the lmxx chip like in the picture, in leg 2 its meant to get 5.7 volts, its only getting 2 and the alternative 5v place is only getting 2 aswell, so not sure what i should be replacing, is there any where else on the board that i could wire to leg 2 just to see if it made it work or is that a bad idea ?

5v is 5v, poke about with your multimeter till you find it, or get 5v from elsewhere like a multi voltage power adapter (check it's voltage cos they not accurate) or a usb charger

cant find 5 volts on the board any where, but might have a usb charger some where, il have a look around thanks

ive found a old nokia charger that says output 5.7v which is exactly what i need, will that do it, hows best way to go bout it chop the end of charger off ?

i dont fancy this lol, im not an expert with stuff like this far from it, theres a guy on ebay that says he fixes them for 35 pound, 25 for fixing it and 10 for postage back to me so bout 45 pounds altogether,as postage to him aswell, about a third of a dm800 clone now adays,

unless theres any kind people on here that know about this stuff that would like to fix it for me for what ever ?

thanks

Friend of mine just had exact same problem, he sent dm but turns out a CPU problem and additional 25 quid to repair.

yes just lob the end off and use the correct wire :) you are almost there, nothing to lose if you plan sending it away.
