Can this image accept software updates Alimac ?
I've been running it on a clone Dm800 for about 6 months ,very nice image once you use pluginmover to free up flash.

dont think will have enough memory mate

if aint broke dont fix it

Thats true I guess

I think you can update allright by running commands to move the complete Plugin directory (usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins) to your usb stick.

init 4
mv /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins /media/usb
ln -s /media/usb/Plugins /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins
init 3

also

The problem is, there's not enough memory available. During the update process the box runs out of memory.
You can do a update in a telnet console with some additional settings:

opkg update
opkg -t /media/usb --no-install-recommends upgrade
opkg install enigma2-locale-en
reboot

/media/usb is used as temporary storage device for downloading the updates and recommended packages are NOT installed.
You need to install a enigma-locale file (language) after the update otherwise the box also doesn't boot (missing /usr/share/enigma2/po directory).

Anyway the last build for Openatv 4.1 on the Dreambox 800 is August 2014 so this image is pretty much up to date anyway,no point in updating.

yip 4.2 an option that works

Thanks guys
I might try 4.2 but I'm happy with 4.1 to be honest .
Is there a noticeable improvement ?

I've spent a good bit of time setting 4.1 up just the way I want it and its running nicely now .
The Openatv 4.2 images on here are early 4.2 versions so would probably need to be updated anyway as they are beta.
The 4.1 image I am using is one of the last 4.1 images so stable.

if happy with it just keep it

memory gets wiped out with newer image

Does 4.2 use more memory or do you mean I'd have to start over with my pluginsmover memory ?

The 800 is a nice box but the 64Mb of Flash is a real bottleneck and it takes ages to boot ,4-5 minutes :Biggrin2:

4.2 will use up all memory the 800 has
barely enough space for any plugins deffo need flashexpander or pluginmover before anything else

I gave the latest Gjstroom 4.2 image a go .
Working nicely but streaming apps like MediaPortal ,1channel and iptv channels kept crashing on it so I went back to 4.1 .

is 4.1 and 4.2 both ok for the dm800hd clone and is the epg still working on it for sat

Is there anyway to decrease the booting time on the Dm800 ?
This image takes 4-5 minutes to boot and restarting enigma 2 is slow too.

Its how they are mate if you want speed and basic viewing go back to a OE1.6 image. Have it in mind though oe2.0 plugins wont run so if you need them your stuck with the slow boot times.

Thanks Ferret
I was hoping that there may have been some way to perhaps boot the image from a usb drive that may have been faster than the onboard flash.

I dont use the Dm800 much ,its in a bedroom ,but the long boot time is a killer .
Its a pity as the Openatv 4.1 image is really nice and pretty quick considering the age of the receiver.
I think I'll move it on and get something with a faster boot time.
