I am a brand new dreambox user with pretty limited technical knowledge. My dreambox 7025+ to replace my S*y+ box has arrived today, I just have a box, nothing else. I need help with where to go now. What do I need, what do I have to do and how do I do it?

You would need to get a Sky card for Sky channels from SKY unless you decided to go the cable route rather than the satellite route than you could S*y channels without a card.

Is there anywhere alse I could get a viewing card from? As I'm on the satilite board I will be connecting through an LNB

well for starters I'd just like to watch tv, further to that I would like to have access to any channels that are available to me

You are not really making it clear what you have or what you want. At this point i believe you have a sky dish, a dm7025, a broken/non-working sky+ box, no subscription card.
So to continue guessing, if you are just using a fixed sky dish then its just the free-to-air channels available, or sky channels if you get a valid subscription. No need to load a new image or cam if you just want the free ones, just do a scan and you get them. If you have a subscription to sky then you can load a new image (i'd recommend Gemini) then load a cam emulation (i'd recommend cccam).

Maybe that helps?

Surely if I'm having a sky subscription card then I would just go with a sky box? If this is the case what is the benefit of the dreambox?

I understand that it is illegal to watch a subscription channel without paying, I also understand that this is also possible to achieve through a dreambox, hence the reason so many people have them.

All I want to know is how this is possible to achieve please?

A dreambox is a satellite receiver that has networking capability. For instance you can use just 1 card and share it among many dreambox's.
A dreambox will not decode sky channels without a valid subscription being used in some way.
Satellite tv has much more to offer than just sky channels and that is the real reason so many people have a dreambox.

I think if you are just looking for free sky then you will be disappointed. If you just want to use 1 subscription with 1 receiver for yourself only, then yes probably you are best to just use a sky dodgybox.

If you want to learn how to set up cardsharing for several receivers then you-
a) need to not mention sky in the same thread anymore as its against rules here to discuss sky & sharing.
b) find an alternative forum that allows direct talk of sharing sky.

Hope that helps in some way.
