Just loaded that image on a spare 500s to see if i liked it.
Yes i do and i like the auto setup feature.
One thing i would like to get round is the auto update of the epg when you reboot or switch on. Is this able to be switched off as i like to switch off the room box when not in use (from the main) and it becomes a pain when you switch on and then lose the box for 3 minutes.

Re: Dm500s running Comando 1.45

yes m8 it can be dswitched off.

press blue> commando epg wizard>getEPG stream EPG wizard,

then you will see the options to switch it on/off at startup and wakeup. :)

Re: Dm500s running Comando 1.45

Sorry for jumping in on this post but mine are both set to no ,but it still loads epg if box is switched on after its been switched of at wall over night but it dont when you switch on from standby.

You've got a rogue flag file lurking in /var/etc for the 'other' EPG by the sound of it, m8.

Go in there with TuxCom or FTP and delete .rt-boot or .getepg-boot if you see them. They are both 0 byte files.

Cheers- AL :)

hi m8

In that case, there is nothing to tell start_neutrino to begin an EPG load after a 60 second background delay after a reboot... So which EPG is your active one, and which EPG is loading 60 seconds after boot, when you don't want it to, please?

I'd like to get to the bottom of this little mystery.

Cheers- AL

Re: Dm500s running Comando 1.45

mine is the sat stream that starts after 60sec after switching box on, mine dont do it if box is in standby and i turn it on, and ianb is the same because i headed him set it up.

take a look m8.

Re: Dm500s running Comando 1.45

OK, Napster, thanks for the screenies of your /var/etc folders, where this mystery deepens...

Neither the marker files /var/etc/.getepg-boot nor /var/etc/.getepg-sb exist, so your GetEPG menu is reporting correctly, that Load GetEPG at boot and Load GetEPG after Wakeup are both reading No and so are both disabled, features switched OFF

So the mystery remains- why is GetEPG still loading 60 seconds after boot, when it shouldn't be? Well, this can only possibly arise if someone has tinkered with the /etc/init.d/start_neutrino file, I think...

Have a look in there and find these lines, not too far from the top:

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

Does the line I've painted red look identical to the one here? I have my doubts on this. What the first two && ampersands are saying to neutrino is, ONLY carry out the next command, which is the one that's loading GetEPG 60 secs later, (while the rest of the boot sequence continues, as told to do by the & at the end of the line), IF the first condition is TRUE and file /var/etc/.getepg-boot EXISTS

Which it clearly doesn't in your image. So this command should NOT be obeyed, it should be totally ignored. It certainly is for me here, using identical settings for GetEPG as you, m8.

Cheers- AL

Re: Dm500s running Comando 1.45

Chrst knows what happened to my last post? Is there a wind-up going on here or summat? OK- Napster, your start_neutrino is 100% clean, so your reported behaviour just shouldn't be happening...

Tell you what- why not backup your existing image via the Service menu to PC? Then take out your educational stuff, and back that up, too? That's the one I want to see, which you can post here in in rar format. So we can unravel what the fook is going on with your image, please?

Thanks- AL ;)

Hi m8

This is well strange i did what buzzer said went into blue button, commando epg wizard>getepg streamwizard and turned it on, rebooted and 60 secs later epg kicked in, i then went back into same section and turned it off again as it was at start, now on reboot epg dont load, so im sorted well strange.

thats exactly what i had to do mate

OK, I think I might know what's been going on with you two...

By default, C14.5 release had GetEPG load 60 secs after reboot enabled by default. With the gift of 20/20 hindsight, that perhaps wasn't such a good idea as it seemed at the time. It certainly won't be enabled by default in the next C14.6 release!

So, you both switched this feature OFF and all was hunky dory. Maybe then you both flashed another image to try? Then reflashed with C14.5 but with the original release image again, rather than a backup containing your new settings?

So when you both said that GetEPG on reboot and wakeup were both NO, this was your recollection from the first flash, not the second? When you went back into the menu, there was GetEPG at boot = YES

This is the only rational explanation I can think of, lads.

Cheers- AL :)

hi m8

no your wrong i have flashed this image a few times as im not very good with stuff like this and every time you switch on it does the same thing, very first time it scan channels then epg, after that from cold start we will call it EPG runs 60 secs after switch on, the only way is to go into correct section (which are both set to off) turn on load epg on startup, then go back into correct section and swich off EPG on start up, now switch of and it does what it should :), it must be something to do with the very first time command was setup (scan and EPG) but after that its just EPG on switch on, its now really a big issue for me as i leave my box on BBC1 on standby but i think IanB turns his off every night at mains.

Right Napster (and Ianb). I've just reflashed with the release C14.5 image in order
to try and nail this sonofabitch once and for all in your minds...

  • Exactly as expected, GetEPG load commenced one minute later
  • because this was enabled by default in this release image
  • when loading completed, I hit BLUE > BLUE > BLUE for the GetEPG Menu
  • exactly as expected, Load GetEPG at boot? - Yes is there
  • I toggled this to No and rebooted
  • exactly as expected, no GetEPG load one minute after boot.

Here is the vital point I think you are missing: if I now went into the Service
Menu and made a backup of the image, and in future used the backup as my
source for reflashing with (rather than the original release), then my new
settings for epg load options are preserved in the backup. So GetEPG will NOT
in future load one minute after boot.

Can we all move on with our lives now, please?

Cheers- AL :)

and I forgot to mention, Napster, but you say that on first install of release C14.5 it performs a Scan, and then loads GetEPG one minute later? It does no such thing! Not unless you have added the 14.6 beta tester kit as well, and have that set to run at boot off the AutoBouquet plugin?

LraiZer's new AutoBouquets stuff did not exist back in early March, when C14.5 release took place...

Cheers- AL ;)
