i got myself a dbox 2day of a mate but theres a few problems that i happened to come accross , firstly theres no picture , and also the sound either doesnt work or is really bad and u hear lots of screeching, Also the box gets hot real quick.
I think it maybe the tuner am i right?
Its a sagem dbox 1x i think

What image is on it, if its sportster press red then blue on remote when on a channel, and post the ber, sig, and snr, results.
derek

yip try another image then if still no good then start thinking tuner!!! or as derek says check the signal levels

weirdest thing i been at this box allday , its cyro sportster pro 1.02 ultra
, and just gave it a kick tuned it in and it works fine
, EDIT as writing this it started screeching again and picture bagan to freeze also some channels stopped working, after working fine for a few mins,
BER 0 , SNR 64000 goes to 69000 when screeching is on , sig 11051
edit switched of box from mains then on and its working again.
The box get pretty hot pretty quick is that normal as i had a nokia dbox2 and it didnt get that hot that quick.

lol, yeah i will oh no just started again , wat can it be? could it be overheating? tuner? i doupt its the image.

If its so intermitent, then possibly a bad connection inside box or a dry solder joint, may be worth checking to see if anything noticeable.

could be overheating. not entirely sure though. have you took out the modem to keep the temperature down a little

ill have a look im sure it must be a problem with the tuner as the is burning hot at the moment and i had it on for like 10 mins, although some other stuff was hot but not near as much as the tuner, how much could i pick up a tuner for do u reckon?
I havent taken out the modem either.

Extreamly tricky to do, tried it once spent about 4 hours and got nowere, supose it will help with the right equipment though,ie good soldering iron and very good solder sucker.
derek

it could be also the signal being to high, thats causing the overheating and squeaking coulnt it?

to tell you the truth m8 your signal looks low. mine is 23130. tuners always get very hot so maybe your signal is too low and requires a signal booster

k, ill have a look orund tomorow at the box , and on her but im off to bed now.
Oh and you 2 thanks for your help , its much appreciated,
Thanks

ok its still happening every 10 mins , ive taken the modem out but it still happens,

i also found that some of the bbc channels work fine still.

NextGen or Boxcracker images are known to work better on Sagems with older tuners. If you're on a channel that doesn't screech and the signal readings are ok, then your tuner is not completely duff. If it's pretty old then you may have problems with it on the higher/lower frequencies and that's why it's screeching. It could also be due to a dried out capaciter. The boxes are designed to run hot, that should be ok...but if it gets extremely hot (if you have it in a video cabinet or have another device such as a dvd player on top of it) then it can generate intermittent problems and you might get the picture freezing or jerking...but again this can be caused by a low or high signal...sorry, reading this back I'm confusing myself now...lol!

Try the latest NextGen image from the download section. Follow the instructions that Gav has given when setting up Sagems. See how you get on with that.

Good luck!

thanks , wud anyone be able to send me the 1x latest nextgen image? via email , as i cant use rapidshare due to useing a shared proxy
