Did you buy a link to this site from eBay?

OK this is really annoying me now. I've got eBay to remove 6 listings today because they are selling MY PROPERTY AND CLAIMING OWNERSHIP!

This includes:
My guide
All tutorials ive ever done
All german to english software translations ive done
My own software
etc

... and people are claiming resell rights for these free downloads!!
It really p*sses me off!

Anyway, I just wanted to do this little poll to determine where our users
are coming from.

So... if you found out about these forums via eBay, or you PAID for any
of the guides, etc on this site, then vote on the poll and if possible
give details such as the eBay user id etc.

I know that people on here are selling FREE STUFF... and to be quite
honest i'd like to find out who they are.

So this is just a quick warning for all users... if you are making profit out
of ANYONEs work on this site, then I will find you, hunt you down,
along with a PERMANENT BAN.

I did actually find out about this forum - and others - from an eBay seller, but he wasn't selling software, tuts, or anything else other than the box I bought from him at a very reasonable price.

As for the overall eBay/leeching issue, I have had similar, although non-Dbox related, experiences too, but I personally find it's not worth getting wound up about, as we are all stealing from the CCs anyway, so I see it like a sort of online karma. C'est la vie.

ok you can see it like that but the people that create and share and mod these images give it freely and to think that someone is downloading it freely and making money on it thats another thing

also that is why in the downloads section we have made it so you have to upload the files rather than giving a link

but everyone has there view but i for one thats on the dole and giving freely and to know that ppl maybe making money out of it for me its upsetting

I am certainly not defending those who do these things, far from it. All I'm saying is that it's impossible for you to keep your work safe, be it images, tuts, translations, or whatever, and waging a daily "war" with the eBay leeches is a battle you can't win. You will get the occassional win here and there, but is it really worth the time and frustration?

We will all be on our toes and help in any way we can, but the only effective way to clamp down on these things is to restrict the forum access and usage to the point where it almost defeats the purpose of having it anyway.

to a certain degree i agree with you we will never stop it 100 percent but we will make it harder than it has been and stop it where ever we can m8 i do think that if we catch someone then the ban will work and i think the more we sqeeze it will cut down especially as ebay are looking to change things on there part as well

I totally agree with you on this one...anytime I see an auction like that it gets reported straight away! We can only keep an eye out for them and try and stop them asap.

most forums are for sharing , ideas /programs or just help but when someone spends time and effort to help others ; then gets their hardwork ripped off is not the spirit of the forum.
These people making a profit are just parasites

I wouldnt really mind as much if they gave credit where due... but some of these people are claiming that they have written stuff themselves, when I know for a fact that the original authors are right here on this very site. This doesnt just apply to my own work, this applies to some of chi's guides, some of stemcells work, etc... and yet these people on eBay are claiming ownership and resell rights!

I imagine that these parasites are getting up everybody's nose!

When you put so much time and energy into projects such as this, it becomes a passion. To undertake this work for everybody elses benefit is very generous. To have your work exploited by these parasites understandably is going to make us all very angry. Especially for the creators, who without their time, knowledge and devotion none of this would be possible.

I would be inclined to include a spalsh that designates these images as public domain / freeware (as how you release them) and that if you paid for the privilge, be encouraged to report the seller to the respective sites where they made purchase.

I do hope that you guys keep up this great work though as it is very much appreciated. I expect that I speak for most of us when I say that you have the support, respect and admiration from the majority of this community.

i was looking on ebay at dbox's mentioned it to a m8 and the ins and outs of it (that i knew of) and he found this forum through searching.

I found the place via google.

Not being funny here, but it seems a bit ironic that you're whinging about someone selling software & info on ebay, when we're all "stealing" ntls tv service :Laugh:

There isn't really any way of stopping people doing things like this, be it giving the software etc away for free or making people pay for it, you'll still get people selling it on ebay, after all, who's really the loser here.

I perfectly understand the fact that someone steals a tutorial or software you've taken yonks to set up, but that's the way of the internet, someone sees something good, they steal it, but to pass it off as their own is a real ****s trick.

I make graphics etc of my own & people steal 'em, one of them is being used on here (a smiley i made) but i aren't bothered, least you aren't trying to sell it on ebay :Laugh:

All the time there are gullible and lazy people out there, there will be these scumbags leeching from here and selling on places like fleabay, if only people would do a search for these things on the net they would find places like this easy through search engines like google ... that would then eradicate these paracites ... no buyers no market ... sadly there will always be leeches

Why not contact their bidders/buyers as I did - and I also informed the seller.

I have noticed you have placed a bid for setting up of a DBOX. All the info that is supplied buy this seller has been ripped off from websites, and is freely available for nothing.

This is the reply I recieved back from one of the sellers:-

It takes me back to a letter I wrote to a computer magazine in which i felt was becoming too commercial in their layout, the reply came that of course they where too commercial they were a business purely in it to make money.

If you have a job I can assume that you do not consider the exploitation of consumers using your products or services, even ebay itself is a business.

The dbox itself is a cable box from germany, the programmes written for it are whilst not illegal , not written with permission of the cable company or the box designers. These programmes cost business and indeed consumers millions of pound per year, a note that you feel unable to concieve.

Yes I have collected programmes from the net and yes I am selling others work, but if you have ever sold anything on ebay then you have surely made a profit for your own benefit .It is the customers choice these disks are meant to save download time.

I think all you can do is make bidders aware that the the info they are buying is freely available.

I for one am totaly p******ed off , with these sort of creatures, there is always somone trying to make money off sombody, Like when i bought my first box a PACE 100 POUND for the box , 10 every month , then the numpty wanted 20.00 , so i had it with him. so i did a few searches , and found u genuine people , had m y pace repaird by a good guy on here , bought a dbox2 and with the help of u guys , cause lets face it , i dont think there could be many that would get there boxes up and smoking , the 2 r going fantastic.

So my point is lets do everything we can 2 stop them . and guys as u know when u do your own and they fire up the feeling is fantastic . So i for 1 will support u all the way , and A BIG THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK

I found you guys via a search on the web for some specific info on the DBOX (XP's media sensing, if I remember correctly). When i received my first DBox a CD did come with it FOC containing various images and the Dummies guide.
God, what an adventure that first one was!
Unfortunately, and to echo was has already been said on this thread, some people will take money/credit when they have no right to.
As a side thought Liam, your Image Announcer, a fantastic tool which will help a lot in times of trouble. could this be in danger of going the same way (if it hasn't already)
Something in the way of "pssst wanna buy a box for £xxx.xx AND this program this will self update for a further £xx.xx
Some people only want the free TV and don't really care what work goes into it.

I think with any software is to make it so it comes up with World-of-Digital Splash Screen, and a link within the software for the buyer to report it to the mods here.

The forums could show a banner at the top of every page to warn anyone who purchased a link that the site is free

I don’t understand that part is he trying to compare say me selling something I have bought say a DVD and getting cash back on it to selling something that I don’t actually own ? And is available free of charge

I can’t really comment because my computer is still waiting for its first piece of legit software I suppose its the same sort of feeling Microsoft feel when I put a serial I found on the net into my windows xp or universal feel when I steal all there videos from internet torrent sites

But then again you are trying to help us all free of charge spend your time maintaining this forum for some monkey to come along as take the p**s out of newbie’s like myself
