help cross over cable

hi ive got a crossover cable but this doesnt seem to go into my laptop cos im using one for my modem?
 
you shoul dhave 2 holes, one that a phone line fits into and a bigger one, it goes in the bigger one. Unless your laptop is ancient.

the bigger one ive got my modem in that? do you need internet acess to flash it mate?
 
There might be a small port cover hiding the network connection port. Seen these on lots of different types of laptop.

unplug the modem and directly connect the dream to that hole. Give laptop 1.1.1.1 255.0.0.0 ip and give the dreambox 1.1.1.2 255.0.0.0 ip.
