Hi people.

I know this has probably been asked many time BUT i am just seeing if there is any new/fresh ideas on this debate.

My issue is I have a SAGEM dbox2 that i have had for over 12 months now and in the last month or so i have been getting amazing problems with the box. Things like:

Freezing of picture
EPG being lost every 5 mins
Chirping on most channels like Sk Sports (never on FTA stuff)
Locking up totally of box so have to be switched off
Black screen but Audio ok.

I have tried various stuff that has been mentioned on here like,

1) Unplug modem from inside box
2) change UCODES and CAMS
3) Changed Images (tried Federation, Commando, Sportster, DW UK, Pacino and possibly a few others)
4) Tried another box i bought for a friend and it worked fine for 1 week (gave it them after the 7 days testing :) )
5) Took this box to my outlaws and tested it there and it does the same

So i have finally given up and conceded that my 12 months old and very much used dbox2 is KNACKERED! (Unless theres anything else you can think of I could try!)

So (back to the point of this thread), do I purchase another DBOX2 (?80ish) or go for a DREAMBOX (?120ish I think)?

Are the Dreamboxes as easy to install and configure as a DBOX2? are they more stable? are they MILES better or just slightly better? ( I think you get my drift now on the questions :) )

Any points of view for or against either box will be taken with respect before i make my decision (all your views are wanted - pro or amateur on either box)

All the best

i would say that the problems your having is more likely software

i got both a nokia dbox2 and dreambox

the dbox2 is more noob proof and doesnt need much attention to setting up whereas the dreambox you need a bit of knowledge and patience

i would say it is best to start off with a dbox2 until you understand the basic fundamentals of how they work then go onto a dreambox

myself i did spend time messing with dbox2 images but i am too busy with work, i am just thankful to the developers that make such images work !

all we need now is a neutrino image for the dreambox that performs just as well as enigma

at the mo

if you love the enigma images then go for the dreambox but for the neutrino images stick with the dbox until there are quite a few neutrino images for the dreambox

i do know of quite a few people that are getting rid of the dreamboxes as the support and not much playing with them as well

once cracked the dreambox will be fine but still my advice will be dont get one just yet wait till the support comes as you may be put off by it

unless its just free tv then a dream is fine

There is not much support needed for a dreambox
The most blokes are not able to research the settings menues by their own. Thats all.
The question dreambox or dbox2 depends on your pocket.
Watching the cables channles via dbox2 is cheaper.

Hi,
My mate had the same symptons as you and it was becuse he had the feed coming into his house put through a 4 or 5 way splitter. (cant remember exactally how many)

But after he reduced the splitting to just 2 it worked perfectly.

Cheers for the info guys/gals.

Small update on "possibly" knackered box:

Got a box of a friend that he had Kein Systemed and he asked me too try and fix - IFA worked a treat on it so put on Commando 6 as per my other box and tried that on my line - bloody thing kept locking up on channels then I was getting Channel not Found errors. (same sort of porblem as my other box)

I went through all the images I have tried in the past and all seemed to be doing the same - so i checked what other images I hadnt tried and the newest one I hadnt used was The DONS Specialist one. So I used that on both boxes and low and behold both seem "PRETTY" stable and have done for last 48 hours! Only a couple of lock ups so far that a chan up/down has cured :)

So it looks like the moral of this story is : Dont give up until yo uhave tried EVERY option :)

With regards to the DBOX2 or Dreambox question: I think I will keep the dbox2 until after xmas and then purchase a Dreambox to play with (may even run a splitter upstairs and run both (will keep the missis from hogging the big screen downstairs so I cant play my 360!)

Thanks again for all the help - I wouldnt have got this far without the people on this site - and to that I am deeply greatful

Regards and happy DBOX2'ing
