Taking the plunge and getting a Ibox 3, my first enigma2 box.
I'm not daft but expect I may make a mistake or two till I get used to these.
What I wanted to know was, my box is coming with an image on it.
Can I, or how do I, make a backup of the settings out of the box in case I do screw anything up?

Sorry it's probably been asked before but it's all new to me.
Found this but not sure if it will apply to an ibox 3:

How to make backup image of cloud-ibox2

1) First thing you need to do though is go to plugins and download the backup 1 to 1 usb plugin and make a backup to usb before you add any thing just in case.

2) Then you need to create a text file on the usb called backupstick.txt for it to work.

3) save it to you pc and name it something like cloud-ibox2 first backup ever!

Mate if you have back up suite installed via plugins thats exactly what you do to make a backup. The most important thing for you to find out is what bootloader is on it. The good news is that Jacek made a clone safe bootlaoder and has updated this so that at least now you wont brick your box if you put on the wrong image although you still cant put on "airsat" images without a little swapping of files.

Have a read at Ferets posts the last time he uploaded backups here which required Jaceks original bootloader fix https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/index.php?resources/2267/

The cable tuner with the new bootloader is also a huge improvement. I can pull in all bar one frequency now and that is a problem on the amiko boxes as well frequency 107.000

Not got the box yet so not sure what image it's coming with.

Does the box state the bootloader in the settings somewhere or how do I find out what is on it?
Sorry for the questions but don't want to brick the box as these boxes are new to me.

Thanks.

This is probably a really stupid question to people who know but I don't so I'll ask anyway.

I will have both sat and cable plugged into it. How do you change between the two or is it done automatically?
Cable has HD, sat doesn't. So if I was to be watching Sky Atlantic (can't get on cable) and I then went to Sky Sports 1 HD (only on cable) does it just work or are there two images and different channel lists?

when you setup the box you will scan the sat and then the cable, this will generate two channel lists one for cable one for sat, you select the channell to watch....

Again this is Jaceks excellent work not mine so the credit is entirely his.

To check the bootloader version you have to use RS232 null modem

Short guide how to update CFE and image through RS232 null modem (this is not recovery procedure for bricked tuner, but the guide can help you to update bootloader/image in the safe way)

#1 Pre requirements:
- RS 232 null modem
- putty.exe
- new image
- USB stick formated as FAT32

#2 Start CFE console
switch tuner off
connect cable PC<->tuner
start putty.exe, select COM1 (or 2,3) speed 115,200
poweron
when you see some boot log, immediately press Ctrl-C twice
boot precess should be stopped

Code: [Select]
BCM97358A1 CFE v4.134, CFE core v4.28, Endian Mode: Little
Build Date: Thu Feb 13 09:10:06 CET 2014 (hde@buildserver)
Copyright (C) Broadcom Corporation.

Automatic startup canceled via Ctrl-C

Booting...
CFE>
now you can type 'help' to see all CFE commands

Q: I have only a short string in the log, what is wrong ?
Code: [Select]
7358000100000001
A: The box is bricked, you need JTAG to recover bootloader

#3 Bootloader update
Update to version CFE Air Digital will brick the tuner if it is a clone!!
So in first step you should update boot loader to version J-CFE V0.5 (this operation is safe) than to version CFE AirDigital if you need it.
download J-CFE 0.5 or latest CFE bootlaoder from Air Digital
copy CFE.BIN to root of USB stick
insert USB to tuner
start CFE console (Step #2 )
flash CFE
Code: [Select]
flash usbdisk0:/CFE.BIN flash0.cfe
reboot
check if the tuner is a clone #5

#4 Image update
download any image and unzip it
copy kernel.BIN and rootfs to root (/) of USB stick
insert USB to tuner
start CFE console (Step #2 )
flash new image

Code: [Select]
flash -forceerase usbdisk0:/kernel.bin nandflash0.kernel
flash -forceerase usbdisk0:/rootfs.bin nandflash0.rootfs
reboot

#5 Is my iBox genuine?
update bootloader to version J-CFE v0.5 (Step #3 )
run command
Code: [Select]
d 0xB0328C80

CFE> d 0xB0328C80
b0328c80 15A0105F 000000DE 00000000 0000001C ...............
b0328c90 00000004 00000000 00000001 00000001 ................ - original main board

CFE> d 0xB0328C80
b0328c80 15A01000 000000DE 00000000 0000001C ................
b0328c90 00000004 00000000 00000000 00000000 ................ - clone

J-CFE 0.5 support both kernel: 3.6 and 3.12

check this:
root@ibox2:~# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 1f900000 00020000 "rootfs"
mtd1: 20000000 00020000 "entire_device"
mtd2: 00600000 00020000 "kernel" <- 060000 => new bootloader , old has only 00400000 for kernel
mtd3: 00080000 00010000 "cfe"
mtd4: 00200000 00010000 "splash"

Copex has answered your question re the sat/cable.

You have to configure both tuners. For example set up tuner a as dvbs and sly uk (and your area) and scan then set up autoboquets which will put the sat channels into sly order if you want. Then tuner B set up for vm but you will need to choose your correct net id and frequency and scan. Once scanned set up autoboquets which afain will set them up in vm order. The cable boquets will be after the sat boquets.

It may be better on your box but on mine I had to manually scan frequencies automatic scan was producing a nil return but I think this is all image dependent.

Good luck.

Box coming Thursday, found out it has OpenVix on it????

Is it true that autobouquets is mainly only for the sat side?
Bit peed off now as I thought it was for both. Wanted something that kept the channels updated automatically on sat and cable.

Seen people using Lraizer Autobouquets for cable, is it any good or reliable?

Auto bouquets works on both sat and cable mate i use open vix and works a treat.

ive got 2 of these boxes. i think they are a good box but i find it a bit tricky flashing them. mine came with open pli and im finding it hard to get TSmidea onto it. all in all its a good box for the price that i paid for them.

Tsmedia is installed like this

FTP the ipk to the tmp folder
Start a telnet session in DCC or putty and login.
Run this command.
opkg update && opkg install -force-overwrite /tmp/*.ipk

This box is weird.

Came with Pli but I've flashed it and put the newest Vix on.
When I've setup the tuners should I run an automatic scan or manual?

Read something about not running the above scan and doing a scan with Autobouquet maker instead? Any truth?

Its down to preference. Manual scan for me because autobouquests does not cover the range of sat positions i need.

Ok mate thanks for the reply.
I'm only going to be using Sly and cable channels.

Can I just ask one more thing? Been trying to add my n-lines in mgcamd 1.38.Dual tuner so line for sat and one for cable.
Do I use the same newcamd.list and put both lines in the same one.

Example:

CWS_KEEPALIVE = 300
CWS = sat line
CWS = cable line

Sorry to keep asking questions :(

Is this correct?

Yes you can use both lines mgcamd

Sent from my SM-G800F

This is getting on my nerves now.
Put the lines in as above and mgcamd 1.38 shows as active but no channels are opening only FTA.
I have a Q5 for cable and a S9 for Sat and each line works no trouble in it's own box. But I edit the newcamd.list to read as above and nothing happens.

Can anyone please give me an idea?

Reached the conclusion that this box is absolute w*nk.
Lines don't work, images are all over the place and can't honestly understand why the fanboys rate these boxes.
Oh seriously I can have an auto-updater?? Well **** a duck if the box doesn't want to do it.

Total crap. Give me plug-and-play any day.

Well it's taken me a week to sit, read and learn and now my box is up and running.
Not overly impressed with TSMedia as not a lot seems to work on it.
Like the autobouquets but wanted to ask something about it.
Can I have a different epg skin when using either the Sly or Vermin bouquets?
I'm using Vix Apollo 097.

Not delved too deep into it yet as I don't wanna screw up what I've done up to now.

Also what are like a top10 of plugins to install?

Thanks.

You can change skins mate and vix image normally has a couple integrated that you can swap between. Top plugins is personal taste its really all about what you want on your box. I dont have many plugins to be honest. Have Rats plugins, coolmans, iplayer and itv player and a few others.

Glad you got it sorted. Think they are decent value for money given the price.

Having some problems if someone can please help?

No matter which image I use the cable side of the autobouquets says 'cannot read data'.
If I do a manual scan using the same NetID etc. then it finds 500+

If I stick with the manual scan, is there any way of organising the results into some kind of bouquets the same as autobouquets does?
