Hi there,

Newbi to the forum, seems to be some good stuff around to help me set up the business. I was looking to see if anyone has any recommendations on hardware...

I've been looking at the Seaward Primetest 100, 250 or something like the Metrel Gammapat pro 20 that can store the results and download to a PC.

Is there any other testers you can recommend, maybe ones to avoid. I'll be looking to do around 300 items at a time over 1-2 days but looking to build the business up.

Any help appreciated!

Also, any suggestions on Liability Insurance? Direct Line are looking the best bet at the moment.

Cheers

Simon

Primetests are nice and easy to use.
Steer clear of the apollo testers constantly break down and battery life is shite.
I have an apollo 500 That constantly breaks down , had the battery changed many times

Also to be make a prophit , you'll have to do 300 plus test per day

Thanks Buzzer, still not decided between the Primetest 100 & 250, it's about ?160 difference. Do you use the Patguard 3 software or just use the CSV in to a spreadsheet? There is a Seaward App for the 50 & 100 which I may use with an iPad for logging. The new licencing scheme for Patguard does seem a bit pricey!

I wouldn't use any of them.

I would go for the primetest 300

it can download to your pc via bluetooth.
you can then make up all sorts of fancy looking reports offfline.

Patguard licensing is pricey, but standalone (cough)versions can be had, if you look in the right places...

here is a video i uploaded which shows you what to do.

PAT Testing Guide

you do not need qualifications to PAT test.

Great info Buzzer, appreciate it, thanks for the video. Just off to find the right place...

It looks like the Primetest 300 has been discontinued, I went with the 250+ instead, seems to be a huge jump in price going to the Apollo series. I was given a free training course with the kit I bought, which I attended yesterday, got 100% in the exam so ready to start testing!!

Thanks for all the help with videos, practice exams and advice. I did get PAT: Portable Appliance Testing, 4th ed: In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment & IET Code of Practice 4th Edition. Well worth getting and a good read.

Off to get some work now...

the Apollo's are absolute junk, good choice with the primetest.
how does the 250 series store result without a keypad?

any up to date or major changes to equipment to use my employer is looking to buy me some test equipment for residential use on property lets.

Not much in the way of major changes, although some older equipment may not provide as many functions or ease of use as you'd like.
Biggest changes are probably the incorporation of bluetooth instead of cables for data download, and software for results storage/printing.

You do need to be qualified for to do testing
I done mine in hss training and got to get a refresher every 3 years

I use the primetest in work still got to do paperwork

Ive got a seaward supernova stores sites places and u can print of certificates

iv got the primetest 350
any tips on it? was a good choice or not ?
also do you have to take the 2377-77 exam or are you ok if you have an electronics qualification like c&g 2240 etc
