I have been asked to look at this CCTV system. Its one of them 4 camera generic chinese models. Problem is the front USB is knackered so cant plug USB drive in to save the footage

The guy has no software for this DVR so trying to connect via web browser and entering the admin username and password doesnt work

I know it has a SATA hard drive, so can I take it out plug it into a PC and then extract the footage, anyone done this befre ?

All it says on the front of DVR is is H.264

I have just gotten rid of one that was a knock off. the drive contains h.264 files but they cant be played as far as I can tell I tried it in kodi and they only worked with the software that came with the dvr. here is the software I used hope it works for you mate

is media port same as mobile port

I have got it connected using mobile app meye and I can view the CCTV camera's. Tried same port settings but doesnt connect

they were seperate ports on mine. the default media port for me was 9000 but if you dont know the password you wont be able to connect anyway. If you select offline on the software you should be able to use the software for playing the files.

if you have an idea of the password and need the media port you could look at the router. it may show up in the upnp settings or possibly in the port forwarding.

Don't you have an old USB socket you could solder in? It's one of the few (ok,, many!) things I keep when I scrap an old PC/lappy/WHY...

going over this evening, no info on box as to make and model of item so going to be a challenge trying to get footage off the device.

There isn't generally too much support for the knock offs. I had bother with mine before I sold it on. The way I got the correct software was to go to the web address on a new browser so that the plugin would want to download. Download the plugin and go to properties of the plugging and look in details. There was an email address there and I just sent an email. They were quiet helpful to me.
I have no idea of how to get around the password if forgotten though. Maybe open it up and see if there is a reset jumper or battery that can be removed to see if that will reset to factory.
While is used mine I never had to use the usb port apart from with the mouse that came with the dvr. Some of them also come with remotes? Does this one?
I have seen a few of this type of system if you can get the make and model number I might be able to find out more for you.

this does come with a remote

It would still need the password though I would imagine. This dvr sounds familiar though.

Can login to the unit via the DVR using a username and password - tried same password over IE but that fails.

It's because the plugin doesn't work with it anymore. Ie and chrome have messed around and stopped unsigned plugins. Try it with fire fox. Also if the software on this post is compatible you will be able to find the media port through the menus.

If you lower the security settings in ie the plugin should work but then your insecure. I just used Firefox just for the dvr when it was an issue for me.

Will give firefox a try when I am over there later on this evening.

this may help you mate. I don't know of a way of getting chrome working with unsigned plugins since they updated it.

went over and managed to export the footage to a USB file. It saved them as a .DAT file so now need to export them to AVI to burn to DVD
