Has anybody set up personal cctv security for their home? .. Wev'e had windows put through this morning and we know damn well who's responsible but with no sighting of the tosser we can't do a thing!

Iv'e had a look on ebay but there seems to be so many different things to look at that I'm a bit baffled.

The kind of thing I'd like to set up is maybe a couple of camera's that pick up movement (pir?) and record it automatically to my pc or dvd hard drive recorder, but how is it done?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to see this numpty caught red handed.

its really easy but will depend on what system you go for.

also for the video to stand up in court you need to get one that has the encoded strings on it... i do think they will stand up in court anyway if they are clear enough but to be certain you need the string.

also you need to think about the machine:

will you buy a recorder or will make one with a PC ?

you can get cards for about £70 - £120 dont go for ones lower because they will have a low frame rate and might not catch people propper

also you must go for a cam with higer lines that 500 lower is ok and also depends on frame rates but you will get a much sharper picture which is always important.

you need to use RJ59 cable for best performance pal and under normal installs you will also need to run cheap alarm cable or something for the 9-12v power supply.

i install these so i know a little there is alot more details but all depends on your install and how many cams you want ?

lookc4 is a great software allows you web access to the cams but is a professional setup.

mate sorry to hear about ur windows u can pick cctv cameras up in argos that pick up movement and i think there in b and q to u sometimes need good light for them to c in the dark the ones my dad has got its realy that good in the dark good through the day if u do get a system u need to display a sign saying ur using cctv equipment if u dont and u record someone it cant get used by the police and u mush have the date and time displayed too hope u get it sorted out mate

Thanks all. I have been doing some surfing around this morning while I wait for the law to arrive, it's been 9 and a half hours since it happened!!

Iv'e seen quite a few DVB cards and camera's on ebay so I'll use Mickie's advice to choose the stuff.
I'm not really sure about how many cams to install yet but I'll probably just go for two and see how things develop.

I'll get this arsehole one way or another, he's got it coming very soon.

cheers lads.

Isn't it just! .. don't think my neighbours would be too pleased though.
By the way, I'm still waiting for the law to arrive after reporting the incident some 14 hours ago.. Is that any kind of record I wonder?

dont worrie m8 once a guy came in to my shop and was like ive got a gun gimme all money or il shoot u i didnt give him money he just walked off
ermm the police nvr turned up lol

and a lil school boi tried nick somthing from my shop i chased him got my stuff back
police were here in a flash going on at me i asulted the kid threw him on a car bonnet talk about justice for ya

maplin have an offer on cameras. Link

avoid cheap ebay dvr card. Make sure cam uses CCD chip as cheap cmos cams work poor in low light and give a more grainy picture. Don't forget that if you have cctv then you have to advertise the fact with approved signs. Try replacing glass with a vandal resistant type. 200% stronger which means that the bricks tend to bounce ight back at the useless needle dick.

good luck

hmm might get a cctv kit and intergrate a pci card in a media centre pc .etc

looks good

and will provide added security

plus if u see the fookers who smashed ur windows well lets just say i wouldn't go to cops i would take care of it

all the cops would do is give them a asbo or somthing

but if u deal with it lets say they wont bother u for a long time....lmao

It's being taken care of m8. Let's just say I doubt that he'll be making any appearances on my cctv for a while: grim : :nopity:

Thanks for the link Welshwolf.. Looks just the job :respect:

Just remember, you can spend hundreds or thousands on your cctv, but all they need to do is wear a hood or cover up their face.

The police are useless. Unless the person was speeding they will not be interested. You aren't rich so they will not be in a hurry to protect you. Best to sort it out yourself. Go with some friends and break the f**kers legs or something.

Yeah, but this prick hasn't got the brains to do that m8. In any case I'll be installing the cctv, even though it will probably be quite a while before he's up and about again once he's been caught up with.

cctv

i got 2 cctv from loyed chemist for 20 quid ran them into the loft boxed them works great: big crow

you can also get slim

macro does micro cams for 30 quid .4 ins long 1ins wide they look cool no sound: multi :

I know how frustrated you feel m8. Please please make sure you cover all angles... Remember if you take other peoples advice and take action yourself it could come and bite you in the arse.

Last thing you need (especially if you have kids in the house) is petrol poured through your letter box.....

It sound like the twat that has done this has got sh*t for brains and nothing to lose....

Use the Police if you can...

If not (and I am only giving you an example not advising) leave it a few months and get a big bloke to beat the crap out of him!! Never let it come back to you!!
