Hey guys.
Today on the way to work the pipe that links the EGR valve to the EGR cooler snapped.
The pipe on mine disconnects from the cooler but Vauxhall wont or cant supply the pipe...
They say i have to buy the complete cooler at a £160...
I showed him the pipe i had removed from mine and asked why do i have to buy the whole unit when all i need is a pipe...no longer than 12 inches.
His reply was that was how they were made but they cannot supply the part now, they only supply complete units.

This is the cooler

and this is the part i need

as you can see the pipe is attached to the cooler by a clamp.
i dont want to pay Vauxhall £160, my cooler is in good condition...i only need that pipe.

Does anybody know where i can get one from? ive emailed a few ebay sellers but they will only sell the pipes with the cooler....its madness :Angryfire

Could you not get it welded? As long as the flexi pipe is not needing welded.
Or check your local scrap yard out. I doubt it would cost anymore than £40 from them.

Thanks mate.
If i cant source a part then welding looks like my only option or somewhere that can make me a pipe up from scratch.

this is the cooler from vauxhall...the pipe isnt detachable like mine...redesigned to make more money?

cheers for looking mate but thats the part i dont want.
im just looking for the pipe, you cant detach the pipe on that unit.

i found the cooler pipe i need here : Saab 9-3 vauxhall vectra c signum astra 1.9 cdti 150bhp EGR VALVE cooler pipe | eBay

this looks identical to mine but he states its for the 150bhp engine...i think mine is the 120bhp...but from what ive read the EGR valve fits both 150/120...im just waiting for the seller to reply to confirm if it will fit or not.

Sometimes life sucks mate. Some brain of Britain comes up with a scam to make more money unfortunately your problem comes into that category. You may struggle to get the part you want so you have to buy the complete unit and that is a big disappointment. Some of these parts are stainless steel so specialist welding is required and that comes at a cost. There are various products on the market for patching up holes such as pastes or bandages, but if your cooler tube part is cracked it is game over unfortunately. the link I sent you is a good deal but that is purely your choice what you wish to do. That is the best advice I could possibly give you. Good luck.

im a welder. Surly it's no more than a £30 welding job.
If it's mild steel any welder can weld it. If it's stainless steel you will need a tig welder.
30 or 45 minute job.

Or stainless steel welding rods work a treat. I too have done welding for many years. It could cost about 30.00 to do the job but that advertisement on the Bay states 30.00 hassle free and ready to bolt on. Which would you choose m8?.

Thanks for your feedback guys. it has been very much appreciated.

It was a case of weighing up the pro's and con's in the end.
Sourcing just the pipe was the cheapest and easiest option...i had thought about buying the whole cooler as they are cheap enough on ebay as miggy pointed out,but to change the whole lot is a ball ache of a job to do.

I did find a few pipes on ebay for astra/vectra/zafira but sellers were reluctant to say if it would fit or not without a part number.

So today at work i took the pipe off (not the easiest job) to see if it could be welded as we have a few mig welders.

as you can see from the pic the ring that seats in the flange had broken away from the pipe so after a bit of a clean up i managed to get a good weld on it and further more i now have a part number to match up with the ones on ebay, for the sake of 20 quid it makes sense to buy 1 incase the weld breaks free at anytime.

but for now i have a happy Zafira again.
Thanks again for your advice guys.
