Right...

The wife bought me a private reg for Christmas.

I've looked into it an is says I can keep it for 10 years for £80, this is paid with the purchase.

When I transfer it to the car do I still have to pay the £80 in ten years or is it now part of the car?

Now the original reg plate. Am I right in thinking that if I pay another £80, I can keep that one also??

why do you want original plate ? if you sell car in 5 years they give u another random one

I can't answer all the questions, but our old car had private plate, we were buying a new car last year. So we asked to take private plate off and put on to a retainer. I believe it's ten years on retainer, pay for another ten when that lapses or lose it. Alternatively pay to put it on another car.

DVLA then put original reg back on. We then sold the old car as if it never had a private plate.

We then bought the new car and transferred the retained private reg on to the new car and fully expect that if we decide to change cars we'll get the new car's old reg number back.

We paid once, and that was only to put on new car, as originally the plate came with fee already paid from DVLA when we bought the reg number. We never paid to transfer from old car to retainer.

I think that kind of answers my question [emoji106]

They wont ness put the original back on but they will plate it with the original year prefix check there website mate

when you take it off the car (fee of 80 for ten years)you are assigned a number plate that the dvla have this costs you nothing
it wont affect the sale of the car but if you sell before this is complete then you can lose the plate as legally you sold the car with plate on it
no need to worry about selling the car with private plate on as you just remove before sale
just mind keep all tranfer paperwork as the vosa mot checking site can get confused when doing the checks
