DIY GPS TRACKERS - Citroen Berlingo Stolen

Nice

Hope the plod manage to get ur van back but in all honestly it's probably being sold on eBay as parts [emoji35]

It certainly sounds like an inside job. One dodgy employee or ex emloyee out for revenge. Have you notified the hire company to ask any questions. Tell them you don't feel safe with this type of vehicle and you want to go elsewhere. Dodgy fookers.:(

all cars can be nicked but the stuff isnt cheap so go for the top class stuff

this item is over £12000 and theres only one reason its on the market

I really feel for you @Mick, not nice at all to have a vehicle nicked. I have been incredibly lucky- in 35 years of driving I've only ever had a Mk2 Escort pinched- and it was about ready for the heap (In fact its brakes were so scarily bad they abandoned it 100 yds down the road lol!).
My younger bro had a 'modified' Nova a good few years back- we shoe-horned a SRi 130 engine into it and he was worried it would go walkies, so we simply fitted a hidden kill-switch in line with the fuel pump.
Your theory of someone 'in the know' selling the details to undesireables also rang a bell. My Dad (again a ggood number of eons ago) put his Sierra 2.3 diesel (remember them?) in to have its injector pump repaired at a local respected Bosch agent. It was a long and costly job (over 2 weeks and almost £2K IIRC) but the car ran sweet after that. Then, less than a fortnight later it disappeared from his driveway, in an area not exactly renowned for car thefts, and re-appeared 3 weeks later not far from a well-known (dodgy) dealer in diesel cars. Minus its engine & gearbox. Funny eh? Plod were informed of the possible link but weren't interested.
FWIW, I think you have gone down the right route- make it as hard for the feckers as possible. The 'stock' security items- immobiliser, tracker etc. are probably easily over-ridden by someone in the know, whereas fitting your own adds the element of mystery.
I wish you the best of luck getting it back.

I feel for you mate, It's not only the loss of the vehicle but the subsequent losses like tools - equipment and just the hassle as well.

When you get your new trackers you mentioned text only sim, I guess your planning on just being able to get a text with location coordinates ? If I were you I would get a data package and use a full online tracking system.

I recently installed opengts on one of my spare servers, you can see it here:

At the moment I'm testing it by tracking my phone now and again, it's easy to set up new devices you just add the imei of the sim and enter a device name, as you can see it allows you to check every aspect of the vehicles movement for a given period ( nice for insurance claims or congestion charge if you should get cloned).

If you would like to test one of the devices on it for free send me a pm, happy to give you a login to add a device.

Cheers

Could you not hide a cam in van or at your house etc.

Prevention is better than cure m8. A camera is only good if you are watching it AT the time of the theft. Otherwise you need to (a) get hold of the recorded images which (b) are only useful if the thieves are known and recognized. Crooks don't wear number plates.

another toy for kids to use to get into you car

Excellent piece of kit in the right hands (IF it works as well as the video suggests) but once the tea-leafs get hold of them.....

Actually this thread reminded me of a story I heard about 30 years ago about a guy who was fed up of his Escort van being continually nicked. He made up a "mat" with straightened-out fishing hooks (barbed) and slid it under the driver's seat cover. And just to add to the fun, he also connected alternate rows to earth & +12V. Now 12V may not sound like it would do much, but if you've ever put a PP3 9v battery on your tongue (which I'm sure most of us have) that may give some idea of what having 12V "injected" into the bloodstream in the backs of your legs might feel like. Especially given there was no quick escape from it!
He only had to retrieve the 'mat' two or three times from the local A&E & his van was left alone after that.
Mind I would hate to think of the consequences of doing that nowadays :-<
