Hello everyone,
I am new to all this so please forgive me if I mess up big time.
Is there anyone on here who could tell me how to get rid of the message which comes up on my dash that says "service vehcle soon" as it has already been done by my husband because we couldn't afford to take the car to the dealers.
It is a Vauxhall astra hatchback 2011 I do not have a button for the trip in fact if I could get rid of this car I would because I don't really like it, it does not have a handbrake (only a button) and it can be taken off very easy which I think is dangerous. thank you for reading my first post.

That is actually telling you that there is a problem with your car not that it needs servicing apparently

If the car says 'Service vehicle soon' with no other message then this means your car has an engine/electronic related fault, not that it requires a service. This will require a dealer visit to have the fault code read.

It it's a service issue then the car will say 'Change engine oil soon', which can then be reset at home.

I'm assuming that you have the Astra J (Mk6) and if so the "Service Vehicle Soon" message is nothing to do with servicing, when the car is due servicing then it will flash up "Change Engine Oil Soon".
The "Service Vehicle Soon" message usually indicates 1 of 2 problems and they are

1) A problem with the Coolant Thermostat/Tank, which has been a recall problem that can be fixed under warranty.

2) A Problem with the Knock Sensors, which in some cases can be as simple as them being too tight.

You really need to get a Diagnostic Check done, just to confirm what the exact problem is.

Good advice m8. get it on tech 2 it is a mechanical fault not a service light. KNOCK SENSOR. The knock sensor detects engine vibrations that indicate detonation is occurring so the computer can momentarily retard timing. Some engines have two knock sensors.
