Hey guys
ive just replaced the rear discs and pads on the back of my tucson

i was just curious why it was only breaking in the centre of the discs

as you can see from the pictures above only the centre of the discs are being used, both sides.
the callipers are free and working ok and dont appear to be ceased

Any ideas why this has happened?
i did think it was down to bad or badly worn pads but after driving on the new breaks it appears its happening to the new discs too

Thanks

I'd be checking the calipers and wheel bearings. Either could cause this.

Thanks mate
well the caliper and sliding arms are all free and seem to be working ok
i do have a squeek when im reversing which could indicate a worn/dry bearing but i just cant get my head round why it would cause the disc to wear in that pattern?
And both sides? Surely im not that unlucky to have nackered bearings both sides :-s lol

True, lol. Dry bearings would probably fail real quick so the squeak is probably a red herring. You could have different problem either side though - I'd check how the pad wears and see if it gives a clue. Is the centre wear the same on the other side?

Just appears to be the outer facing side mate.
the pad was worn the same, the outer edges was smooth and less wear then the centre.

Not really my area but kinda makes you wonder why some many slider pin kits get sold for that motor? About £20 off fleabay - could be worth a punt, not a major job :) If the caliper tilts, the outer face would wear oddly but likely not the inner - just a thought.

That makes sense, ive goto whip it all apart again because i noticed the parking brakes are nackered to.
ill invest in the sliding pin kit, at 20 bucks i may aswell.
thanks mate

What age/mileage is the car? I have a 04 CRDi, done about 130,000km, which I really like- not noticed any problems like yours but I'll be having a look. It did make some horrible screeching noises a few years back, it was the rear pad-wear indicators.

Cheers mate, gonna order some. @trevortron its a 54 plate cdx, 92k miles

Very similar age & mileage then, our 2. I guess I've been lucky and/or the weather here doesn't kill cars the way your stuff does. I just took this photo thru' the wheel, looks OK so far :)

Let us know how you get on doing the sliders.
