ive just changed my resister pack and its getting warm and starting to smoke help?

was it the blue pack you put in?.Could be a faulty resistor is your heater hot now?.try another blue heater pack and make sure nothing was trapped when you put the glove box back.Failing that the motor next to the pack could be burnt out (brushes).

its the green pack the blower works fine but only on 1 2 3 number 4 not working does this resister get cooled by the fan when its all put back together ?

Yes it gets cooled by the fan. the pack you have put in has a resistor for each fan stage so if one fails that fan speed will not come on.So it could be back to the resistor pack and check all the connections and look for breaks in the wiring that can short against the cars body.

thanks for the info will have another look tomorrow cant understand why it wont blow on number 4 do think switch could be faulty

when the blower is on does it keep a constant speed or is it up and down.Sometimes the bearings can wear on the fan and put an overload on your resister pack thus blowing a resistor. Just have a listen and make sure if not you could have a faulty switch. Good luck with it and i hope you get it sorted .

Cant say iv every changed a motor on a ford focus, and from what i remember 1 2 3 are resitted and 4 is straight, so you should get 4 everytime, Cant say 100% tho but im thinking either faulty or incorrect resister.

Out of interest what year is this car??

1999 estate all sorted now resister pack blown and previous owner left it running on 4 and burnt out the switch
