hi,

I took my car in for a valet today and when i went to collect it the airbag light and brake pads light was on. The guy that done the valet said all he done was washed and cleaned it. im wandering has water got in somewhere. Any advice on getting this checked out in the birmingham area without taking it to a BMW dealer and paying a load of money.

cheers

ive checked nothing just yet as Ive only just got it home. I will check the fuses tomorrow. I would have thought if fuses had blown the warning lights wouldnt come on though. I may be wrong.

Could be he pushed the seats to far back causing the connector under seat to come loose =airbag light.

I never thought of that I will go and check now and get back to you.

cheers

ive just checked connector is all ok. Its soaking wet under there though I wonder if water has got into the connectors. Maybe light will go out when it dries.

there will be seat occupancy sensors plus seatbelt pre tensioner wiring under and up the sides of the seats all vulnerable to waterlogged wiring
also the under floor and sils is where the wiring conduits are
i would advise having it tested asap by an inde[endant garage if you think dealer will rip you off
as all the above items on a bmw are real expensive ....

if it does not dry out after a day or 2 with this nice weather it may need a diagnostic check done,is brake fluid low meaning pads are worn and sensor cut putting light on ,look in through wheels front and rear to give you an idea of wear.other thing is handbrake returning down enough as the odd coin gets wedged underneath and switch not depressed to cancel light.

well sounds like both the brakelight switch and seat connector got wet, i Wouldnt let it try out m8. Get the heater on full and on the floor.

But still might need to be reset by diagnostic

hi,

I checked the connector under passenger seat today and it was soaking wet. I removed connector and sprayed with wd40 but light is still on. I suspect it will need resetting. Anybody have an idea how much it will costto reset it. Also I could only find a connector under passenger seat should there be one under drivers side as well. I only wanted to get my car cleaned so im gutted about all this.

cheers

should be one for drivers seat also as most car have a diagnostics around £20 i would think, but if needs fixing would be more

If everything is wet just get in the car and turn the heater on full blast, let it all dry out. or if you have a drive, just open all the doors and windows and let it dry out. might be a shorted connection.
id send the bill to the valet people for screwing it up.
