Guys

Had a bit of intermittent problem since last week occasionally when turning (seems mainly to the right) the steering goes really tight, almost like i have a flat tyre but offcourse it isnt flat, obviously something to do with steering but its booked in on tuesday question is how safe do you reckon to drive (ps im the least mechanically minded chap on this forum lol) just looking for some advice.

Im assuming any problem "should" be covered by the vauxhall warranty

Sounds like a power steering pump or steering rack problem. Needs checking asap m8 and will be covered by warranty

cheerrs bud, exactly what im thinking but also think it could be the steering fluid which to me looks mega low/non existant (assuming im looking at the right reservoir) the owners manual doesnt show it lol!

Could just be a damaged ball joint, witch wont be covered by warrenty - Possabley broke due to the condition of the roads recently?

Either way you'll need to jack it up and have a play with and pull and push things to find out what it is!

gutted if it was ball joint lol

would the fluid being low/next to nothing not also have same effect on steering?

thanks guys guess its guesswork until as joe says vauxhall look at it

Yeah. if its using a lot then theres a leak somewhere, but driving with it low could cause it to suck in air (When going round coners and roundabouts ect) would also make it feel heavy!

joe can i ask a favour if i take a pic of what i think is the steering fluid? can you confirm thats what it is? as i say there is nothing in the manual, im just guessing due to position in car?

pic attached anyway hopefully someone can confirm, i think its the white reservoir to the top left (as your looking at it) of the pic?

taken from else where so if wrong dont shot the messanger

The reservoir is mounted directly on the electric motor to the pump. You will find it mounted to the rear of the engine compartment, low down just above the steering rack (on the righthand side for a uk car).

the one in the pic looks like brake fluid one

i would have thought back right is correct then i.e above steering rack? lol im lost now i thought break fluid was other side :-(

if it works tro one side with eps fine then it cant be a fluid fault ?
flud is recirculated to the resevior when you turn the wheel
but it might have a torque sensor fault
do you have an eps light on ?
and maybe a scan of codes will show steering angle sensor not configured
just to add seing as were havin a guess:proud:

no but funnily enough when turning the wheel i can hear fluid rattling around sometimes? no warning lights, can you confirm from my pic if that white bottle at the back corner is the steering fluid as its more or less empty?

I cant really see anything in that pics mate, it will probbley be mentioned in the usermanual if you have that

have the owners handbook and its not mentioned from the pic the white bottle to the top left of the pic?

From looking around mate looks like you need to look for this, behind the engine...

this time circled in red what i reckon is the steering fluid?

No mate, pretty sure that is brake fluid...big bottle other side is coolant and the yellow one (lid type) at front is screen wash.

Have a look down behind engine for something similar to what I have put above :)
