I have a 58 plate astra, 4 months after i bought it from new the air con went. i was told it was my fault because i never ran it enough (i run it at least once a month) i had to pay to get it re-gassed.
10 months later it went again and i was told by vauxhall, because it has happened again i should run it once a week. (grrrrr!!!) it was re-gassed again.
9 months later! you guessed it, gone again. this time i am told the condenser is cracked. when i challenged them about charging me previously, they said it could not have been cracked then because it would have shown up in their pressure test. i was told it is a 5 hour job to replace the condenser.
my feelings are, they did not find the cracked condenser because it's a 5 hour job to replace it and it's esier to re-gas it and charge me for it.
anybody know if a cracked condenser would show up in their pressure test?

if there was a leak normally system would be pressure tested first, think you need a few air con experts on that, hmmmmmmmm when frozen does it seal or leak????

no a crack in the condensor would not have shown up, Mine had half of the bottom of it missing and it would keep gas for about a week.

IMO they should have checked the system the first time you took it in. a cracked condenser is easy to spot....

Also depends how they were checking the system, if using vacum this can miss a lot of leaks, and really a system should be presurised and checked with nitrogeon if the system was empty.

I had a 406, that had a very slow leak that didnt show on the pressure test, fortunalty I found it after paying for them to re pressureize it just the once.

I've never really hear of them loosing pressure in under a year though through lack of use ?

There is a oil in the gas to help keep seals ect lubbed but still I think they are taking the piss saying it's because you havnt used it.

at the very least when they regassed it for you they should have added a tracer dye. There is no way a system should loose its gas after 4 months, there must have been a leak even then, they are takin the piss.
