Hi guys

I'm having a bit of a prob with my Mazda 6 at the moment. Last year I had both rear calipers replaced as they were seized. A few months later seized again and was replaced under warranty. On Sat I was stopped at a roundabout and as I took off the rear right brake seized and was engaged. I stopped for a bit and it freed up. This morning the same thing happened again. Had to pull over and ended up getting stuck in the snow!

Is this problem likely to be a calliper problem or could it be down to the cold weather at the moment? It was -9 when I left this morning!

Thanks!

brake fluid can absorb water its hygroscopic
and if the water content freezes then it can either stop a brake from working either by locking on or not applying pressure
try leaving the car in gear at night to see if the handbrake mechanisms not freezing on
and the main fluid filled part should be ok as you've had the callipers replaced so new fluid will be clear more or less of water
but common for mechanical side of callipers to stick so if you never use the handbrake it should stay off
try it see how it goes for now

had issue on my 52 Plate Zafira - the hand brake cable froze and wouldnt release the brakes - had to let the temp increase for it to release

since then I have not put handbrake on and put car in reverse gear, as I dont live on a hill not a problem,.

had 3 cars in today with same problems ..

last time l saw this we could put grease in the cables , come back grease nipples lol

same here, its ok now its warmed up ! its common on vauxhalls, the rubbers come off the cable ends.

My ASTRA's breaks were making some scary noises during the cold spell, thankfully everything appears to have returned to normal.
