Anyone here ever dabbled in remapping ecu's for cars..

and i dont mean via blue fin or such more so of actually modifying the fuel/spark tables yoruself.

im looking into myself at the moment, will be running megasquirt managment on my car soon (once i get the engine transplant sorted) and this will let me map on the go and do it myself.

however a friend of mine does remapping via an extrenal company who provides the maps for him

im looking to try and be able to save him some money and modify and creat the maps myself..

ive googled a program called ecm titanium.. but i wont be forking out £2200 to buy it if i can find it somewhehe ;)

ecu mapping can at times go way over your head i get mashed up half the time when i get read outs i have a scooby originally thought it was doing 280bhp and i was running ecutec took it on a roling road set up by my local scooby club and it come in at 247 had the ecutec licence and had a remap at the cost of £160 and now its at 277 bhp all through some one taking the chip out the ecu and reproggramming it o yeah i had to up rate the fule pump first

it sure can you need to remember if you offer it out it had better work ie test on your own car, members of public are not forgiving when you give a cheaper map but you mess up there cars

i know as i do it for the smarts up where i am

yeah unfortunatialy wont have a RR to do things myself always..

luckily there are alot of maps already out there that i can use and compare to.
with my car will alll be mapped on the road with megasquirt.. but for my mate he so far has various maps taht hes bought but to use them oin different cars needs them rehashed or modified to suit the ecu model..

at least this way i can manipulate the original map to mirrior a known working map and tweek where nessary

alot of maps carry a licence and the original programmer has info on the last maps its all stored in a database. if it looks odd in any way the licence is revoked.
all ecu programs if not edited correctly will go in to limp mode and the emc will indicate if this is an emf or an ecu fault
