first time with VMDG480

So I used to do ambit mac cloning back in the day, but stopped a while back.

I have a VMDG480 downgraded and a few macs from friends that live a few miles away, I'm just wondering do the macs have to be specifically from a VMDG480 or would they work if they were from a 485/490 too? (sorry if it's a stupid question or has been answered)
