As requested we have added a new cable modem support forum, for discussion on cable modems, cable speeds, modem types, BPI, checks, certificates, and all things cable modem.

If you have a question regarding this then this is the place to ask.

Regards
Mick

we had the best cable modem section back in the day before things got murky

we can get it back going again!

there are people out there with modems running if any of them are members on here maybe they will post some software

hopefully someone can post the firmware being used to get 120mb going :)

from what i read it is not as easy as before but few people had running for quite a while

can you nod me in the right direction please mate

i thought this was a dead subject nice to no it still can be done any info please

This is still going, I've had a 20mb modem on for well over a year now with no issues. The key is finding a lucky mac really. Alot of them die after 15-60 mins due to clone detection then I found one that stayed online. The trusty old haxorware still works for me using an old ambit 255. I was given a hub off a friend and successfully got that online with a mac also but I found that the certs aren't replaced on them without doing a full reflash with a programmer so I stopped using it. Didn't want any link back to my friend. Call me paranoid lol. :)

can you give me any pointers on the hub side of things

Its actually very easy to do the SH. It requires no fw flash as such its just a tftp fw downgrade and telnet job to change mac. Not sure I can post links to another forum via pm on here? I know its not allowed in threads though. They have a full tut on how to set your SH up.

Really the ambits are still going???? my 250 kept going for around a year after they all started going off. I thought the cable modem modding was dead. Its been so long i cant remember lol i guess things have changed, still have my cables though :) will have to have a go when i get time....

you need the docsis 3.0 modem with forceware installed, a valid cert will be needed in this case to get it runs. However, there is another way around to get the modem online. just need to do some researching.

You need docsis 3.0 modem (sb6120 ..ect) and forceware installed to get to 120mb+

My ambit was going until the end of August, it was running on a 2mb mac but it worked no problems and did what I needed, think they have updated the network and diverting those to the activation page, I changed mac to a friends one and it still diverted me to the activate your modem page. Now looking into the Super hub methord

My mates got a VMGH485, so I don't know if that will work.
However I have managed to change the VMDG480 downgrade it and change the mac and serial, however only top and bottom lights on the side go solid the middle one just blinks.
Has it worked or is it conflicting with the other one 5 miles away?
