How to copy multiple DVD movies to 1 DVDR with DVD Shrink

This guide will explain how to create your own DVD containing multiple movies from other DVD's. The resulting DVD will have no menu's however. The method is quite simple and suitable for beginners. As an example in this guide I will be using two of my own retail DVD's. I will create a DVD with just the main movies. It is also possible for you to add in trailers and any other extra's you want, but the more you add the more the lesser the quality.

Dvd Decrypter- This is needed to rip your DVD's to your Hard Disk Drive and remove copy protection.
Dvd Shrink - This is needed to Author your new DVD.
Nero Burning Rom - This is needed to burn your new DVD.

DVD Decrypter will remove CSS (Content Scrambling System) from your DVD files leaving unprotected DVD files. DVD Shrink is a terrific program that you can use to backup full DVD's to DVD-R in a very small amount of time. It also has the possibility to re-author DVD's, which is what we will be using in this guide. Nero Burning Rom is probably the worlds most popular burning application, we will use it to burn your new DVD to a DVDR. Make sure you have enough space on your Hard Drive. You would be pretty safe with 20GB free, maybe less.

Ripping DVD's with DVD Decrypter

This is what you will first get when you run DVD Decrypter. There will also be a DVD Decrypter Log below this. You can use DVD Decrypter to Rip the DVD files to your HDD or you can use it to Rip an ISO image of the DVD. However the first thing you will need to do is make sure that Source is set to the DVD Drive you will be using to Rip the DVD. Now insert your DVD and you should see a list of files appear.
Set to File Mode

As mentioned earlier you can use DVD Decrypter to rip either the DVD files to your HDD or to Rip an ISO image of the DVD to your HDD. We will want it to rip just the files so in order to set it to File mode, click Mode --> File. It may already be set to file by default.
Select Destination Folder

You have to select a Destination folder for all the DVD files to go. To set the folder click the little folder icon under Destination and a little file browser will pop up. Make sure that you select a partition with enough disk space for the entire DVD as DVD's can reach over 8GB in size. If you need to create a folder, there is a Create New Folder button on the File Browser. When you find the folder you want the files saved into, select it and click OK.
Rip DVD

All that is now left to do is click the button to Rip your DVD. The ripping could take anything from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on the speed of your hardware and of course the quality of the DVD. Repeat these steps to rip your next DVD(s) as well.

Re-author with DVD Shrink

DVD shrink allows you to author your own basic DVD. It allows you to take parts from multiple DVD's and put them on one DVD. The program is quite easy to understand at first glance. There is the DVD Structure area that will allow you to select titles and menus. When you have selected them you will see the compression settings for them appear. It will include all the audio tracks and subtitle streams and allows you to simple untick whichever ones you don't want. The Preview pane in the bottom left hand corner then can play any selected title. If it has multiple audio streams you can right click on the preview pane while it is playing and change to another audio stream. However we are not trying to backup a Full Disc.
Select the Re-author option

You can select two main options with DVD Shrink, Full Disc or Re-author. Click the Re-author button for this guide.
Locate your DVD files

After you click the Re-author button you will see Compression Settings and a DVD Browser appear. Firstly, use the DVD browser to locate the folder on your HDD that contains the first of your ripped DVD's.
Select what you want

After you open a folder with DVD files in it with the DVD browser, DVD Shrink will list all the VTS on the Disc, the Movies and the Extras. You can preview any of these if you want to keep them. I will be just selecting the movie. Right-click whatever you want on your DVD and click Add. When you have done this use the DVD browser to find where you ripped your second DVD to and open it. Select whatever content you want and add it. You will see anything that you added appear in the DVD Structure.
The Compression Settings

After you have added all you want to be on your resulting DVD, click the Compression Settings tab. , you can get rid of audio streams and subtitles which you really should do, as you will need every little bit of space you can get to keep any sort of good quality. You can also save space if you right click on a Title and click Set Start/End Frames, and set a start frame after any unwanted opening credits and setting an end frame before the credits at the end of the movie.
Create the DVD

Click the Backup button on DVD Shrink when you have finished with your Compression Settings. There are just a few more settings now before we can create the DVD.
Target Device

In our case, our Target Device will be another folder to put the DVD files in until we burn them with nero. Change Select backup target to Hard Disk Folder. Now below this you will need to specify a path to a folder you wish to save the files in. You can do this easily by clicking the browse button and locating the folder with a file browser. Always make sure that Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders is ticked.
Quality Settings

Click the Quality settings tab. For this type of DVD that will require heavy compression, you should definitely select Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality. This means the process will take longer but you will need to select it to make sure the quality of your DVD isn't too low. DVD Shrink also offers Quality Enhancements but in the case of retail DVD's these wont help very much.
Begin Process

Begin the process by clicking the OK button. The time it will take to create your files depends on the length of the files and the speed of your computer.

Burning with Nero Burning Rom

There are many burning programs you can use but for this guide I have chosen to use Nero Burning Rom.
New Compilation

When you launch Nero a New Compilation window will appear first. There are two types of Compilation you can make, CD and DVD, for this you will need to set it to DVD. After you have set it to DVD select DVD-Video and then click the New button on the New Compilation window.
Add DVD Files to Compilation

When the Compilation is created in Nero you will see two windows appear, on the left you will have the Compilation window (in the pic) and on the right you will have a file browser. In the Compilation window, open the VIDEO_TS folder which will be completely empty of course since you haven't added any files yet. Now go to the file browser and find the files that DVD Shrink created. Drag all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder that DVD Shrink created into the VIDEO_TS folder in the compilation window. You should now see the Nero progress bar shoot up.
Burn DVD

When you have added the files to the Compilation Window into the VIDEO_TS folder, you can now burn the DVD. In Nero 6+ click Recorder --> Burn Compilation and in older versions you may have to click File --> Burn Compilation. Select your Write speed and click Burn. In a few minutes you will now have a DVD with multiple movies on it.
Finally

This is a pretty simple and easy guide and you should now be able to add multiple movies from DVD's onto just 1 DVDR.
