rite guys im pretty new to all this burning an converting stuff so please be patient with me if i seem a bit thick... right, ive got a few movies in divx .. but i wanna put them .. or burn them to a normal playable dvd... im using divx to dvd converter... an ive got nero...or is there any other software i should be using ? but if someone can be patient enough to tell me how to do it step by step, id be really appreciative..

cheers guys...

I use convertXtoDvd or Winavai to convert from Divx and then you can burn then with any burning software, If you use ConvertXtoDvd it will pop up a box when converted and ask you do you want it to burn it, so just put a dvd in or put it in before converting and it will auto burn it for you.

Like what jaffa said really,
Although I tend to use winavi a lot more because its faster and
does the same job,
just use the default settings except its better to change the target format
to Pal rather than leave it on auto,

once its converted just make a dvd using nero, all you do is drag all your files
over to the dvd folder and burn

If you already have Nero then Nerovision Express does a great (if slow) job of converting files to DVD with menus.

i put disc in and run the set up but when i open it up it says its a trial version i dont know how to apply the patch
when i open up gold path there is a tab says apply patch but then this is were i get lost it opens up a window with my programs in it what do i do now any help would be much appreciated

i have used them all and find convertxtodvd to most reliable

from what i can remember you copy the patch to the folder where convertxtodvd is (program files) and then run it in there and it patches it

When you say a normal playable DVD, I assume you plan to play your disc in a DVD player connected to a TV or whatever.

If you plan to do this regularly, another option is to buy a DVD player (or recorder/player) that will also play DIVX and XVID directly without the hassle (and quality loss) of conversion.

I have a Technika badged recorder/player from Tesco which cost £60, and has a USB socket so you can play files straight from a flash drive, and a Targa badged player from Lidl which cost about £25.

Good luck.

yep, this is definately the way to go, saves a lot of time and dvd's.

Until then, I would use winavi ( its a bit quicker than convertxtodvd ) to convert to dvd, then burn it with nero ( i had problems with dvd's not working on certain dvd players when I used winavi's own burner )

to burn any dvd image with nero-
in nero smartstart click on - backup - burn image to disc (make sure you open it with nero express )
then click on - video's/pictures - dvd video files, then drag the whole dvd file into this window , press next, choose your burn speed and press burn.

i tried allanj advice for the DVDsanta download.although its free you cant do a good converstion as the actual copy made will have a watermark on and you wont enjoy the finished product unless you buy the pro version.

i just use nero smartstart, takes about half hour to convert and burn, all in one program too.

iso's take about 15 mns to burn.

dont forget to burn movies at 4x

you can right click the file(movie)

choose burn with, then choose nero

going back to the why bother converting , just bought a Onn dvd player from asda for £20 .

Its got a front usb port which plays unconverted films straight off a usb stick, you can also stick unconverted films straight on a dvd and watch em. that means you can get around 6 films on one disc.

It also has a HDMI connection for those with HD tvs.

All in all, its a steal for 20 bucks.

What program would be best to use then if it can play AVI files without being converted on DVD, I usually just stick them on my stick but got a few tv series that I wanted burning and just came across this thread.

Just use Imgburn. You can select files or folders to burn and bingo, off you go. Wasn't sure if it worked or not so just burnt 4 AVI films in 10 mins - worked a treat!

I use Copy2DVD as its integration is superb.

I just right click on a file and select 'copy to dvd' and its done !

Multiple files can be added as well.
