I have a customer that has asked me to setup a PC to automatically rip CDs when they are inserted to FLAC files.

Is there any free software that could do this and what is the best. Ideally, the PC will be in a rack without a monitor, mouse or keyboard so need to be as fully automated as possible.

Thanks.

do you have copyright priviledges to the cd's in question?

Probably too late, but: For private purposes, the copyright issues are non-existent.
You can install an old Windows Media Player, it had a setup for autoripping. (I guess iTunes is out of the question, missing FLAC altogether!)
I'd put my money (well, actually it's free) on Exact Audio Copy.

As long as the person who paid for CD "does" have the right to rip the music to another device for personal use.
But can not be shared.
It was a silly law years ago. If you bought a CD then bought an MP3 player you had to buy it twice as it was illegal to rip disks then.
(UK law)

You can rip music discs now as long as it's for personal use.
Havent listened to a CD in a long time as the world spins faster than ever nowadays.

But good old windows done it for me.

looking at the o/p's setup, i guess it's fair to assume he might copy more than his "private" collection ;)

The best tools to use would be Exact Audio Copy (EAC) to rip them as .WAV and convert them to .FLAC. You can use the Windows AutoPlay settings to start the EAC program when you insert an audio CD.
