Hi,
I transferred some old vhs to dvd using a vhs player and a dvd recorder. By using the 'long play function' when recording I managed to get about 2hrs 45 mins on the dvd.
I'm now trying to make a copy of this dvd on the laptop but having problems when trying the following methods:
1 - nero copy dvd - just spits out the disc after burning 1st chapter (there are 6 chapters) and says there has been a 'burning error.'
2 - copy dvd using windows 7 burning tool - appears to do the job but dvd plays on pc but not dvd player.
3- imgburn copy dvd by writing and burning iso - appears also to do the job but dvd plays on pc but not dvd player.

Anybody have any ideas? Could the fact that the original dvd recording was done with 'long play function' be causing the problem?

Thanks,

try a new dvd player..

cheap one that plays avi, mpeg4 etc..

clone dvd or dvdshrink may work for you. im unsure why you would have trouble. the dvd recorder must have made a none standard dvd.

Have tried it on 2 different dvd players (one is cheapo that plays everything) and it won't play on either of them.

Will give it a try m8, do you have any links for gratis copies.

My guess is that the session may not have closed on the standalone DVD recorder.

You might need to use something like freemake video converter to rip the DVD on your PC and remaster it.

Yep, that's what I was thinking... rip the dvd to MP4 or something then re burn it as dvd.... what a ball ache!!!

Yep use free make to convert format and then try convertXtoDVD to burn.

Used to use convertXtoDVD a lot a few years back. Don't have a copy now... anyone got links to a working copy.

Do you still have the DVD recorder that you originally used to copy the VHS? If so, try popping your 'original' back in & see if you can finalise it.

You don't need convertXtoDVD, freemake can output to DVD for you.

The only thing about freemake is that the menus you can put on the dvd are a bit basic, but other than that it's a great free burning program.
