CD & DVD vhs to dvd help

my dad has got some old vhs tapes of my mam who past away 12 yr ago i would like to have them on dvd i got a old vhs player and laptop win7 what lead do i need and what software will i need to do this thanks
 
thanks rawsy i looked at some of the cards review some will not work with window 7 look to me its a bit hit miss with the cards has any one know of amy card that will work under window 7 thanks
 
You are going to need a reasonable laptop to do real time encoding though most in the last few years should be fine.

As mentioned above, make sure the device is Win7 compatible. As long as the description mentions it or you confirm by e-mail then you are covered by sale of goods act.

Your alternative is to get a hardware encoder but they are not cheap, probably looking at £50 to £100 for used one but results are very good. Probably not worth it for a odd couple of conversions.
 
Easiest way for perfect quality is connect the vhs player to a dvd recorder. The tapes wont be macro protected so will transfer over perfectly.

my friend has windows 7 it does work ,it does xp vista ,windows 7.
you do get some good notes on it ,but we need to know why sound is not working,pic is good easy to put from video to tape but only sound is the 2 of us talking lol.
 
personally i tried alot of different models of video grabbers. ive found there mostly hit and miss from video's but from a digital camcorder they work fine.

i could name a few where there online support dont even reply to emails etc.

i did as one of the replys said just connected it to a dvd recorder and spun a disk that way.
