DVDshrink is too old, it's not been updated for about 6 years and doesnt work on original DVD's and cannot read protected disks at all. It also screws up DVD's that use the Sony protected menus, which came into place not long ago.

I have anydvdhd installed so any program that can make an image can be used. I use imageburn to make ISO files. Anydvdhd strips all the protection on-th-fly regardless of the program you use to read the disk.

DVDshrink has never de-protected disks or worked on protected disks without another program like anydvd in the background.

The last version of dvdshrink was in 2004, Sony ARccOS and PuppetLock (affects menus and stops them working on some players) both came out in 2007, therefore dvdshrink's writer would not have known about them. DVD Decrypter also has the same problem.

Bang on about dvd shrink, although there was a new release earlier this year I believe. although might of been last year. But as you said, its out dated tbh.

There was no new release from the original writer as he was forced to stop developement with a cease and desist order.

Some website called dvdshrink2010 and a few others have tried to cash in on the name and are also charging for dvdshrink which was always a free program from the original site.

dvdshrink.org: FREE Backup Solution for your DVD movies!

The last version was v3.2 in 2004. There are lots of posts on their forums which detail all the scams for dvdshrink.

There are far better alternatives now, like CloneDVD or MagicDVDripper, both of which are faster than DVDshrink. MagicDVDripper also handles protected disks with upto date protection. Both costs money, unless you get them from wherever.

DVDfab is supposed to be good also and is free for the ripper.

Haven't ripped a DVD in ages, I find it easier to download a copy.

But DVDShrink (definately no offical upgrade in years) in conjunction with DVD decryptor and DVD region and CSS free has worked OK for me in the past.

I have a couple of mates who use DVDFab and say that its OK and works with the latest discs.

While it may not of been from original author, its still technically a release. But as said, there are much better programs available.

Ok technically I'll give you that one. :)

Although I believe it's called DVDshrink 2010 and costs $19.99 and is a complete rip off of the original.

Just wish someone would write a dvdshrink for blu-rays.

I looked everywhere for a simple solution to turning a 50gb blu-ray into a 25gb one, the only easy solution is BDrebuilder, but it's very buggy and is only the front end for a bunch of muxers and re-encoders, and it fails more times that it succeeds and takes anything upto a day to work.

I know that when you look at the disk the main movie can be smaller than a 25gb disk, but I want to keep the extras.

It's the same when trying to find something like convertxtodvd for blu-ray disks. I did use a program called multiavchd which was quite good, and again a little buggy and again only a frontend for other programs. I managed to get the whole of the last series of 24 on 2 blu-ray disks taken from 720p MKV files. Then end result looked very good and was above DVd quality and res.
