New MINIX NEO U1 TV Box S905 £45.59 or best offer

What you have to ask yourself is can you update the Android version as we all know Kodi moves with the times and if you cant get Android 6.0 at some point its worthless, If you can then it seems a good buy

Kodi still runs fine on android 4.4 so I don't see it being a problem at the moment.

The only device I have seen running android 6.0 is the nvidia sheild and its £149.
Minix also have there own version of kodi xbmc/minix which works perfectly.

I still don't think it's a deal breaker for 45 quid. I don't think they'll be many apps that will only run on the marshmallow 0S. If you need marshmallow then you will have to buy a Nvidia shield. If you want a future proof device for 45 quid then good luck with that.

Almost no one is using Android Marshmallow, still - CNET

KitKat is the most widely used with lollipop in second.

If your going to spend £45 then save £10 and get a fire stick its fully supported by amazon for future Android updates and koying the main Android Dev who branched off with SPMC has also done some tweaks for it. Most users spending that type of wonga only want something pre-imaged with the latest addons and we all know there is no 4K on any addons.

If you want true 4K UHD playback at the moment there is only the shield that is future proof they only just announced yesterday that on the next update it will have HDR for 4K UHD and some other minor updates even the newer wetek's wont have HDR on there 4K machines.

Just my thoughts but an amazon fire stick with support for future android updates is the way to go, the Chinese keep bringing out a new machine every few months buy the time people have upgraded they would have spent what a shield cost in the first place.

As @manic01 said just my 2 cents

I've got firestick and they are great for kodi but I can't plug drives into it and watch my media collection or us my usb air-mouse with apps that need it. So for me I think it's worth it. 4K works well on it to if you need it. Just my opinion.

Fair point but i would assume serious media users like myself and many others would use a NAS which can be accessed via any device locally either hard wired or via Wi-Fi, i dont use an air mouse as most things i control on there the supplied remote is plenty enough

I suppose its horses for courses. I don't have a large media collection and prefer the portability of small drives. On the other hand my brother has a large collection and uses a NAS drive and also doesn't use kodi addons and prefers satellite.

I have my 1080p Smart TV connected to my NAS and I watch majority of my NAS media in this way. I am unable to play the HC and HVEC content, would boxes like these be able to play this media directly from my NAS to the Smart TV?

I don't use my for that but I know they can. With minix XBMC you can play 60fps 4k h265 videos smoothly.

You can access your NAS via ES File Explorer, Network, LAN, Scan. Then select your NAS and playback via any media player of your choice.

Don't think there is any left at this price.

If the build on your firestick is to big or if you do not run maintenance it will run slow. Just install the addons you need and it will run fine. But you also have to run maintenance on kodi regular to keep it running smoothly. The U1 runs great but if all you want is kodi then the firestick is sufficient, if you use it properly. Also the U1 has shot up in price lately since the brexit lol.
