I am looking for the very cheapest way of purchasing a legitimate windows 7 or 8 or 10 64 bit key to put on a new build pc

Grey areas but try to find one of the many people on the likes of Ebay selling them for around £15-£20 that is using a legit MSDN Admin account or one of the MS Volume Licensing products, and not just a dodgy reseller.... good luck

Or could try buying a cheap old knackered Win 7 bit of hardware with a legit license sticker on it, and go through the upgrade process

I thought windows ten was a free upgrade for everyone!?

Only if you have an excisting legitimate activated Windows OS running to enable upgrade.
Non activated copy's installed without legit key won't upgrade but that is not the question.. the poster wants to purchase a legal key for a new install.

Gone are the days (sadly) when you could take a snap of a licence key sticker on a showroom demo PC and use that! NOT that I ever did of course.....:grayno:

Not That I would recommend it but In theory you could still do it if you stick this ShowKeyPlus on a USB stick and visit that showroom
