Hi Def tv is here and now, but who understands it?

Full HD 1080p, HD ready or HD compatible? Whats it all about then?

1920 x 1080 or 1360 x 768 or 1280 x 720 screens.....

Progressive or Interlaced
HDMI or HDMI1.3

.....surely too complicated for the general public?

Whats your views?

I'll give you my view as soon as i understand what you said...

....and don't even think about asking in Dixons(or whatever they're called nowadays)

it is complicated but here goes...lol

The size is down to resolution as per user monitor...

you missed out 1080i which is 1080 lines that are interlaced which improves the video trasmission without using any extra bandwidth but can cause the flicker in the broadcast image, interlaced is better for still images

The other is 1080p or 720p not 720i where the p is progressive scan with a framerate of 60 fps the progressive scan means each line is drawn in sequence. Which gives a greater preceived resolution. and a fast clean display.

HDMI is the 1st version of the protocol and v1.3 more than doubles the bandwidth, and gives more colours so better picture:)
Thats my idiots guide:)

thats the thing, tv has become far too complicated for most people. As Narabdela says even if you walk in a shop and ask an assistant for advice they have no clue. I think HD-ready has confused things even more too.
Who knows what skyHD signal is broadcast? Who knows what bbcHD signal is broadcast? Who knows what resolution/signal the xboxHD will be? What about HD-DVD what resolution will that be? The new ps3?
Well they are nearly all different so what display panel is best to suit?

Its just stupid the amount of technical stuff you need to take in to understand HD television and it may get worse soon.

SSSSssshhhh. Keep quite. My business thrives on the fact that its so complicated that most people can't understand. (Including me sometimes!)
