Just looking for a bit of advice on Synology NAS, I have been using this for the past couple of years and imported all my music into it. The DS converted my music into m4p file format and the music sounds great using its player. I have recently copied my music folders back onto my PC and unfortunately the m4p audio files will not play. Does anyone know if I can get Synology to convert on masse all the m4p files back to MP3?
Regards DD

can you not just convert them back to mp3

why are they mp4 and why are they not transcoded to mp3 when you copy them back to your pc,never had anything made into mp4 on my nas drive, and all plays well on everything ive used ?

My assumption would be these files were either downloaded from iTunes or iTunes was used to rip the CD's and when doing so, you didn't choose MP3 as the file type. As you didn't choose MP3, iTunes used the m4p format which is a copy protected format which is going to give you grief. What happens if you try to play the files using iTunes on your PC?

Previously the vast majority of my music was on my PC’s hard drive as MP3 with some aac and FLAC when the Synology imported them it converted most of them to m4a.lpcm which was fine as I was using the Synology audio player. I replaced my PC after it broke and was not stressed as I knew my music was still on the Synology and copied it back to the new PC. Unfortunately all those m4a.lpcm converted files will not play on the PC or on a USB drive in the car.

OK. Are the files m4p, m4a or a mixture of both? Also, how big are the files?

Run one of the files through MediaInfo and post its output here please [emoji1360]

Only m4p files 5,000 of them. I put one through media info and this is what it shows:

Complete name : C:\Users\aaa\Desktop\m4p\Come Into My Life.m4a.lpcm
File size : 38.2 MiB

Is that all the data media info gives you? It usually gives you loads, codec, bitrate etc.

Just checked my music on my Synology, all my tracks are stored as mp3, did you select convert when you originally copied them to the Synology ?

Hi T3rminal
When I examine a MP3 with media info it does indeed show the information yours does but the m4a.lpcm files only have what I shown?

MediaInfo should give you an output like this if you choose, View -> Text

Not to worry though, have you tried installing K-Lite Codec Pack?

Code:

Mate, all my music copied over the years from CD's onto my various PC's via Iplayer and other means then copied to Synology either by a cut and paste or imported and converted to its recomended format. It was never a problem as all my original files were on my old PC that gave up on me. I may have a look at its old hard drive and see if they are still usable.

Did you install K-Lite codec pack and try playing he files again
