Any of you guys done this ?
Used the LED strips and put them on back of tv via usb

Think it might add effect but wondered if it looks tacky lol

Would it look better all around, top/bottom or 2 sides ?
55" TV

Not done it my self but have seen some fantastic results, It all stems from the Phillips range of TV's that have the ambilight feature which is purely for making your Blacks look as black as possible.

If you already have some form of low level lighting in your room behind or near to the rear of the TV then the ambience light is not needed, if you go for it try and get the multicoloured LEDS which will give you a choice as to what makes your Colours on the TV stand out better

Yeah your right about Phillips, a mate of mine had one when they first came out :)

Would the power from the usb be enough? I dont want them overly bright

Lightberry seem good :) shame it needs power supply was hoping to not use more plugs
ignore that needs Raspberry PI to run lol , back to the drawing board

I'm liking that.

That along with a reclining chair and I would be set :)

Just be careful with the amp's used, make sure you get a very low wattage strip!

5.5v the amps will be very high.

PS I could not even find a 5.5v LED strip???

Where did you see this @Rat

I think USB would work but you would have to find out what the TV's USB 'Draw Power' is as there seems to be loads of different figures bounded about anything from 1.5 to 5v and then in between, And then you have the different USB 1.0,2.0,3.0 that all draw and need different power.

I would say if your going USB style try and get the lowest Power ones you can

Im sure if you can have a hdd running ok an led strip would be just fine on the same port, im going to get a small light aswel looks quite smart

I've ordered a 2M length with usb
I noticed a lot of the longer ones come with mains lead rather than usb, so grabbed this 1 for ยฃ20
Will let you know what it's like when it comes :)

dont forget some photo's of the finished article @Rat

Yes would love to see it finished...

Sorry I missed your question @Rat, to be fair I am not sure anyway regarding the USB, I just now that you need to be careful with how much the LED's pull, I dont think you could use SMD 5050's as they are around 15watts a meter... (roughly 3 amps just for a meter needed by the USB port).

Regards
Mick

If your worried about the TV m8 why not use a USB plug adaptor and plug it into a wall socket

Could do @Bronto but I was trying not to use a plug as Ive used all the sockets in the extension lead lol

I bought a 5m kit for under and over the kitchen cupboards, they are 12v smds (can't find the original specs). They have a remote for changing colours, flashing, strobe. Also dimmable. Can cut too any length and i fitted some alarm cable to bridge a gap from one side of the kitchen to the other.

These give off minimum heat, so i don't think they would cause any damage. Shame there isn't many 5v ones to choose from.

just seen ikea dioder

The ones that change colour with the screen are pukka :)

How can I find out what power the TV's USB can handle ?
