My parents have got an LG 37inch tv that can take anything up to 2 hours to turn on. I am guessing there is a problem with the power board?. Do you think it would be worthwhile getting a new board/caps for this TV? or is it not worth poncing about with it. Please could someone advise?. Thank you.

Depends how old it is miggy. You can pick up 37" sets so cheaply nowadays, most repairs aren't cost effective.

It is 7 years old @nara

It depends if it is caps miggy, , what's the model number? If there are obvious bulging caps it's worth replacing them on the off chance. Caps are cheap enough to try. I got a main board for a 42" lg for £50 and after programming it up haven't looked back. See how much a power board is to see if it's worth it. I'd check for bulging caps first though.

I've just picked up a 50" LG for free, that won't power up. Taken the back off it tonight, and there are about 11 bugled caps on the power board. LG have used some really crap capacitors on this board, and I'm replacing them with Panasonics. Hopefully it will mean this TV will work again :) Only cost me about £8 for quite a few caps so worth a go in my opinion!

Defiantly worth a try, I'm always collecting people's knackered electronics to have a mess around to see what I can bring to life. The wife isn't happy about my hobby though with all the crap laying around lol

Great information guys thanks. I will take the back of later and check that power board. I will let you know the model number later @rawsy :)
@rawsy the Model number is LG37LC55 Do you know where I could get a power board from for this model? and roughly how much?.

Go to maplins and get replacements, take the board with you
they only cost around 50p - £1 each remember to solder them on the same way they came off + and - and dont touch anything on the power board even after turning it off as it holds a charge for a while

Would it be possible for you to take a look at this board for me and see if it can be repaired Purity?. I think I may live near you???.

Single-sided boards like those are easy to work on @miggy.

May as well replace all the similar capacitors while you are in there, apart from the big one.

If it has 6 domed caps then it will be worth changing those for new caps and replace any others similar on there.

Are you asking me to change the caps?

I possibly can, but I've got another LG power board to look at at present, and I'm in the process of looking at an arcade PCB for someone else.....so it will have to wait until I've done those if ok? What area are you in?
