SAMSUNG UE50HU6900 tv how have you got your surround sound connected ??? help please

ok so i have SAMSUNG UE50HU6900 Smart 4k Ultra HD 50" LED TV how do i connect my surround sound system to it , when i had a sony tv i just had a red and white lead from the tv to the surround sound system and that worked fine through my tv or dvd player, i tried the same lead from my surround sound system to the samsung tv and i can only get my dvd player working through the surround sound system , i get nothing when i turn the dvd player off , no sound from my tv through the surround system.can anyone tell me what lead i need [if any ] and where do i connect it please .

can you not just use a tosslink (ir) from the tv to the surround system that way anything connected to the tv will be passed to the surround system

Thats the cable just also make sure your surround system has a similar optical input, It should have but worth checking before you splash out

You will get a better quality sound through it as well tony as its Digital also easier to hide if passing through a wall cavity if your tv is wall mounted

Yes mate 51 inch 3d plasma smart tv I have it connected to a sonos soundbar and 2 sonos play 1's as surrounds sounds awesome Connected with tosslink. The sonos is wireless Exept power cable lol

ok i want to play films loaded onto a usb stick whats the best file type that gives you the best picture quality that will play on the samsung tv ..

please
all the films i download are iso files that wont play off of a usb

I find anything I throw at it mp4 divx etc etc play no probs quality is good too

why not install Plex on the TV and the same on your Lappy/PC and store and stream from there Plex can see any file format including Full Blu Ray 3D tried and tested on both of my Sammy's

I don't need that mate I use a sonology disksatation as a media streamer works a treat to my smart tv,s I can also direct download torrents etc to the diskstation so don't need to leave lappy running

Plex do a version that runs on the synology, personally using USB in the rear of a device for media playback is old hat seeing as most have NAS or other devices to stream from.

The problem with the samsung TV's is that they are limited in what you can play back from an external device via USB and thats why i remarked about Plex it will play any format where as direct USB cannot.

Again i dont use torrents prefer NZB/Usenet way faster and i also like to watch quality especially on something like a 60" screen or bigger so i generally stick to full blu ray or maybe an MKV rip

I never watch the lower Avi rips as i want full 1920x1080p and full HD audio nothing less will do.
