Hey guys,
I picked up a mid-range LG tv at the weekend and now I'm kinda worried.
The model in question was a LG 42LD490 LCD.
Most things seems pretty sweet on it but I have a big issue with a couple of aspects - I just wanted to run it past the more knowledgeable peeps on the boards.
Firstly, I swear the picture is artifacting when it moves quickly. Not so much I can say "YES!" whole heartedly but I swear I see some break-up
Secondly, when I play Heavy Rain on my PS3 the picture looks really grainy. The whole thing looks like it's made of millions of tiny wiggling dots (yes I know it actually IS but you get my point!). I don;t remember seeing this on my old Samsung 32" LCD (1080i). Also, when I leave the game on pause you get a raindrops on water effect and this seems to be blocky and full of pixelation when you look closely.
I'm running the PS3 in 1080p (although teh game is 720p anyway). I have it connected to the HDMI with the same cable I used to use for the Samsung set.
Blu-Rays seem to be fine, UP looked spectacular, as did Transformers. SD is mixed, with DVD upscaled (Via Sony home cinema system to 1080p)suffering from some nasty pixelation at times. SKY is OK for the most part - bit "blotchy" and dithered in places but the HD feed is reasonable, although a little grainy at times.
My questions are:
1) SHOULD I be getting break up? The TV switches between 50Hz and 60Hz when feed dictates.
2) Was this TV a poor purchase? I can find no reviews on it only the Non-HD freeview model LG 42LD450. All of these seem good enough.
3) Does anyone else get this dotted effect on HEavy Rain? I've played a few other games on the PS3 (and the Xbox 360 connected via component) and can't say I've noticed it.
4) Are there and "recommend" setups/settings for this TV?
5) Do you just get/notice more atifacting on a larger set?
I know I've picked up a mid-range TV and can't expect the world from it but the overall quality seems better on my older Samsung 32" LCD than on this TV. Hope that was enough info to support some replies I have a couple of days to return the set so I wanna get some ideas before I decide.
Thanks all,
Moose
