hey guys,
my tv has a usb port and will play music and display photos, but doesnt have the option to play movies. I know other LG sets can be hacked to get them to play video, i was wondering if anyone had any info on this set as i cant find anything online
cheers
mb

LG stopped this happening with newer firmware mate.

I think it was removed from any firmware after 3.36

However it can still be done if you have the LG Service Remote.

My tv is over a year old so may possibly have an old firmware? if not are the remotes easy to come by?

Press MENU > SETUP > DIAGNOSTICS, this will tell you the Software Version.

Some people with version 3.37 have reported that they could still access the service menu, so you might be lucky.

IIRC to enter the service menu, you either hold Menu on the TV and Menu on the Remote at the same time, hold both until the menu pops up, on later models you had to hold OK on the TV and OK on the remote.

A few months ago a guy was selling compatible Universal remotes on eBay for a tenner, although the genuine remote is a lot more expensive. - cheapest I ever saw it was £21, but usually around the £40 mark.

im on 3.37, but neither brings a menu up :(

Same as mine mate.

I was given a loan of a remote by a member on AVForum.co.uk.

Not exactly a loan, I actually hired it for a fiver, lol

This any use if you have a symbian phone with IR?

LG TV USB IR-Hack

Requirements: European LG LF/LG/LH tv with USB service port, S60v3 smartphone with internet connection

Notes: using this method you will not void your warranty as you're not going to flash any firmware, you'll be using the same infrared impulses that the LG 105-201M service remote controller sends your device to open the EZ Adjust / IN-Start menu used by LG technicians; just make sure you don't change anything beyond the EMF and DivX settings or your chances to brick your set get instantly higher.

Good stuff Mozr, that method works too.

There is a Russian or Polish website (?) that is setup for hacking TV's.

They release new firmwares for these tellys, but the last time I looked, my model 50PQ3000 could not be downgraded.

I can't remember the name of the site and I can't find it via Google. :(

I'll keep looking though as my mate has bought the PQ3000 too and he wants Divx.

Found this on the AV forums if its helps. I know Aldi were selling a median multi remote for around £5.

Hello,

after I wrote a lot of threads I found a simple solution for me without any IR remote tools on Mobile phones or Smartphones.

It works definitively until SW Version 3.41 and with a lot of new LG TVs.

You need a Universal Remote-Control ideally with
- 1. The possibility to give a 3 or 4 digit code manually (or a list-memory with the LG code 0119 or 119).
- 2. The button EPG (this button is reserved for the service menu).
- 3. A code list with the code 0119 or 119 inside only to be sure. If not you can try.

In my case I bought a Tevion/Medion MD81035 and it works perfectly with my LG 42PQ3000.

1. Setup Button few seconds
2. TV Button
3. Input Code 0119
4. EPG Button
5. New Code demanded on TV
6. 0000

And you are Inside! The rest is already explained...

I hope it was helpfully...

It works also with the LIFE L 41169 or Medion MD 41169

Sorry for my English. I'm a French guy... ;-)
