Hi

wow not many posts in hear hope fully somebody will see it :)

I have a question I have an 60G Video ipod classic that intermittently locks up when i connect it to the car (mine or Mrs) on my car it says read fail on the Convers screen i suspect its the hdd connector needs refitting as if i move about and reconnect to car it will then work for a while (couple of weeks)

I was just musing that if i was going to the ballache of opening up, would i be better just swapping the hdd for a 120G or 180G to future proof ?

Then i thought mmmm o/s.

My question is is the ipod o/s on the disk or in eprom or similar ?

If its on disk how do you prepare a new hdd for installation ?

TIA

I honestly don't know for sure m8, but I suspect o/s is NOT on the hdd. I came to this conclusion because I have one that I got cheap at a boot sale. Although it played OK, I couldn't add or remove tracks, I kept getting the 'Do not disconnect' message on its screen and iTunes came up with other messages I can no longer recall. Well, later on someone gave me a similar (not identical) one to fix, it had a knackered headphone socket. So before making one good one out of the two I tried his HDD in mine & vice versa. Strangely enough they both worked now, but the original 'differences' remained on the original units.
I swapped sockets (as I use mine in a dock) he went away happy (I'd already backed up & restored his content) and mine is OK too :)
