Hi everyone,
Is it easy to change the battery in an iPhone 5s, or do you thing I should go to an Apple Store?
Thanks a lot!

It all depends on how good you are with your hands. Plenty videos on youtube- have a look there & see. They recommend you use a special pentalobe screwdriver, I used a filed-down watchmaker's screwdriver.

I don't know if it's changed but the adhesive under the battery was quite strong in this model. Great care needs to be taken to avoid distorting the case whilst removing it, slight distortion could place undue stress on the screen when re-fitting it. The digitiser glass could then mysteriously crack of it's own accord even days or weeks later.

Don't use a sharp tool to prise it up either, lithium batteries don't take kindly to being punctured. :proud:

just use a hair dryer to worm up the surface and lift it carefully

Take it to Apple!

There was a know fault with some iPhone 5 & 5S batteries but if I remember right, the time window to have them replaced by Apple closed Jan 2016.

You need to order battery and special pentalobe screwdriver, and wait for some few days to arrive, while you can take it to the phone shop and get it replace instantly for 15quid.

Taking it to Apple shop will cost you more

This is a technical forum mate where members prefer to do the job themselves when practical. Replacement battery about £7-50 and the pentalobe (not strictly needed but preferable) is about 50p from the same supplier.

I don't know if this helps anyone but I've done loads - did one this morning, easy enough to do.

1. Remove the 2x penelope (star) screws from the bottom.
2. Using a sucker gently pull up the screen from the bottom about 3cm or so.
3. Gently detach the home button connector from the board.
4. Raise the screen back and lean it against something upright - no need to detach the screen.
5. Remove the battery connector cover plate + 2x screws and detach the battery connector.
6.CAREFULLY! pry up the old battery - heating up a bit with a hair dryer can help but to be honest I usually just use a spudger and poke around until it lifts. Be careful not to slip and damage anything. There are 2x glue strips running the length of the battery top to bottom next to each other.
7. Replace with a shiny new battery, being careful with the connector to the mainboard.
8. Reassemble and your done!
