My sons iphone 5 has developed a fault with the home button. What happened was, siri would randomly turn itself on and then I read it could possibly be the home button and the home button ribbon cable at fault so I replaced both but now the home button doesnt work at all and siri still comes on randomly (the two prongs definitely touch the ribbon cable)
I have even tried putting the old button/cable back but the home button still doesn't work. He has updated the phone but it didnt solve the problem.

My son did originally have a couple of problems with the charger port. I thought it was crap come fluff inside the charger port so I carefully cleaned that with a toothpick but not much came out.
now someone has said it might be the docking port assembly cable thats knackered there about £4 so is it worth me changing it ? Or has anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it ?

To enable the on-screen home button, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch. Turn Assistive Touch on, and you'll see a small circle appear on screen.
Tapping that circle gives you four options: Home, Siri, More (for things like multitasking and playback controls), and Favorites. In your case, ignore Favorites, but tap this on-screen button whenever you need to access your home screen, activate Siri, or get all the options you'd normally see when you double-tap the home button.
If the on-screen home button ever gets in the way, simply tap and hold to drag it anywhere else along the frame of your screen.
It's hardly an ideal solution, but it'll hold you over

Thanks,
I think that's what he's doing at the moment. I'm going to replace the docking port cable but after that that's my bit done i think and he can fork out for a new one,

I have read using cheap charging cables on the iPhone 5 can knacker the docking port.

There is two gold pins below your home button on charger port.
makesure they are sitting up so your button hits it.charging port isnt to hard a job you can even do it with motherboard in.

If your sstuck i would do it for you silver.

Thanks for the offer, tbh I'm normally OK with the simpler jobs like screens and batteries on the 5. I checked the pins and they are touching the two pads as they leave a small indentation in them. I'm beginning to think there's more to it. He did have a water issue about 18 month ago but it's worked fine since then so ..

I can't get the phone off my lad to have a proper look with ihm working then straight out
