Ive an iphone 5 knackered, no power just dead. I have tried a different known working battery but nothing PC doesn't see it.
Does anyone know a decent trustworthy firm I can send it to for a repair ?. There's one local to me I've used before and wasn't happy with their work.

you can buy a charging port for about a fiver and try it yourself.

this is more likely to be faulty than the battery

i replaced one last night, right pain in the ar~e to do but solved the problem. ( phone kept resetting)

I have a feeling theres abit more to it, it didnt work on my multi usb charger or another charger using different cables

I haven't done the iphone 5, but have replaced a few in the 5s. Fingerprint reader socket alignment was a total pain to start with.
Patience is a must as you well know

I took the iphone into to a local shop and they just belled to say they cant do it at the mo. He said "We can't do it at the mo, bring it back in the New Year, reason is, there's no IC chips on the market right now" whatever that means.
Does anyone know what he means ?

Really ? , right next move.... I'm OK with the old soldering iron attys etc...plus I've all the tackle. Which were and how chip and video would be handy

Thanks for the links , tbh it doesn't look too hard I've mauled with similar fixes before

As for the guy from the repair shop on the phone ? , I'm not sure if he said IC or IRC if that makes sense. Like ianb said , he might be bullhitting and is either busy or can't be harsed. Thanks again

it's real fookin hard when you got fat shaky fingers and eyesight that a bat would moan about.. lol.

for the price it is, be worth the gamble to fix it imho.. :)

An ic chip is a chip about 2mm wide which enables your phone to charge your battery.i had a friends iphone 5 with this prob bought the ic and tried to solder chip.it really does take some serious skill i failed but it was worth the try

I'm going to take it another shop and if that fails I'm going to give a go

Just picked it up , they said engineer phoned in ill could be well after Christmas before they get chance to look at it.

So on that note, can someone recommend me a reputable iphone/mobile phone repair company online ?. I can see there's a few via Google but has anyone sent there's and been happy with their service ?

If you know someone who can do micro soldering.a bit of googling will show where the chip goes.if its not powering its prob the ic chip.you could find out if you know some one with an iphone 5.all you need is to take bat out of there phone and insert in yours.the phone switches
On then its the ic chip.
Or if your worried about using there bat you could buy a cheap bat on bay an try that.they usually have charge in them.

had a similar issue and it ended up being the motherboard... make sure you only get charged if they are able to fix it. otherwise you may be throwing money away if unrepairalble
