installed io5 yesterday and been using imessenger, but this morning its one min going through imessenger and the next through txt, any ideas why its doing this, is it the phone apples server, my wifi connect which is fine as far as i can tell, confused anyone else getting this.

I was going to ask something similar

I was under the impression when using wifi iMessage would be used to another iSO5 iPhone, if wifi wasn't detected it would send as a normal text (chargeable) ? is that correct ?

well today I was out shopping, wifi was ON but not present anywhere, I tried to reply to a message I received but I kept getting Not Delivered!

I was forced to turn wifi OFF to reply, then it sent as iMessage
but why wouldn't it send as a normal text ?

hope that makes sense lol

Sounds like to me it still isn't perfected. Had WhatsApp and Kik Messenger for some time before this and to be fair i used it very infrequently for MMS, still used text messaging (but then it's unlimited anyway)

imessage detects whether the user at the other end can recieve aswell by pinging so you may have perfect 3g / wifi but if their data is off or signal a bit low or something it wont ping back so your end will send the message as sms.

if your finding it a bit tempramental it can be turned off in settings > messages :)

we dont want to turn it of as its free, anything free is good

there is 2 versions of imessenger in the app store the free version or a paid version , just trying to find a few answers out lads , testing it

if your signal is fine then its a problem with your friend the other end, as said, it pings them to make sure they can recieve an internet message as opposed to a standard sms, tell them to stand closer to their router / nearest cell tower lol

didnt realise it had a standalone app? you are talking about apples new feature in ios5 arent you? its built in to the original message app and not some other app going by the same name?
